I did not create a file library but instead created a "Backup to Disk" device. I believe that this is the device type you must use if you are using the software StoreOnce. So things like DFMF don't apply.
I will do some additional testing and see if I can learn something. Again, the real surprise to me is that it only works on one object at a time. It will always be slow if this is by design. The copy operation used multiple objects, I am just surprised that the consolidation project was single object.
