First, if you are on a previous version fo DP, do NOT upgrade to 8.10 at this time. We are having significant problems with this release.  I have no doubt that the problems will be resolved, but I don't want anyone of being put into a position of not being able to run backups

Having said that, you a whoe new set fo licenses is going to be required for DP 8.10.  In the Product Announcements Guide

it says:

License passwords issued for releases prior to Data Protector 8.10 will no longer work with this version.

For this version of Data Protector you have to request new license keys or passwords. For newly purchased licenses, you need to select the product version "8.10" when requesting a password. A password generated for Data Protector 8.10 will not work with any previous version of Data Protector.

You need to have a valid active support agreement in place in order to be eligible for new license passwords according to the type and quantity of licenses listed in your support agreement.

In the Installation and Licensing Guide

Please review Chapter 5, where there is a long explanation of the new licenses.  Bottom line, when you upgrade to DP 8.10, you have 60-days to get the new set fof licenses, following their procedure.  There is no additional charge for the new licenses, at least, that is how it was explained to me
