We have been backing up our Exchange 2010 DAGs with DP Exchange Integration for a couple of years. Now we are planning to migrate our environment to Exchange 2013. The plan is to create a new DAG in 2013, migrate all mailboxes over and delete the 2010 DAGs and decommission the Exchange 2010 servers.
We need to maintain the capability of restoring our Exchange 2010 backups after migrating to Exchange 2013 but, I have noticed that we are unable to perform a 2010 restore when the 2010 DAG is offline. The DAG name or active DAG member must be selected under 'Startup Client' for the restore to work.
All we need DP to do is restore the database/log files from tape to a temporary location so that we can use other tools to extract the mailbox data. I don't see why the original DAG needs to be available to do a straight restore of the DB/Log files but, maybe I am missing something?
Is there a way to restore Exchange 2010 backups after a migration to Exchange 2013 and the Exchange 2010 DAG is deleted?
We currently have DP 8.0
