Hi,

Data Protector Express is (was?) another product that hasn't anything to do with what you're trying to achieve. Generally, it's easy:

  • Get hold of the installation media for Windows of the DP version in question. You should have got that with your package, or downloaded at the time you installed ("DP 6" can be anything from 6.00 to 6.21 which stretches half a decade of versions).
  • On the new client, start the setup of the correct architecture (x8664 for 2008R2), choose "Client", tell it the cell managers name, make sure "Check connectivity" works, than proceed to install at least the Disk Agent component.
  • Get all the patches for Windows that are on par with your patch level on Linux, and apply them to the 2008R2 client directly.
  • If there is any chance you might get another Windows client into the cell some time in the future, you should also select the Installation Server component, thus making this 2008R2 server your Windows Installation Server. It will make things a lot easier in the future regarding first time rollout and patch rollup of Windows clients.

The process is usually straight forward, provided your IP connectivity and name resolution are working properly.

HTH,

Andre.
