Re: General questions about migrating from 6.2 to 8.1

DP 8.1 is an all-opportunity pain right now.  I would advise that, unless you need the capabilities provided in DP 8.1, you consider upgrading to DP 7, which uses the same IDB as you are using now

I would not classify which type of platform causes the 'least' problems, as I said, they are pretty much the same.  Having said that, there is much lower use of HPUX as a Cell Manger, and greater utilization of Linux, but, a majority of the INstallations are running Windows

JUst about all of the CLI commands will run on newer versions.  DP 8.x uses a new type of IDB, so some of the old 'omnidbutil' commands are gone, and been replaced with other commands.  Many, if not most, of the old procedures we had in place for earlier versions are no longer vialble with DP 8

The command you referred to 'reset_poor_medium' still needs to be run from the command prompt.  The 'mc' is a UNIX OS command, and has nothing to do with DP

You can review the Installation and Licensing Guide for upgrading to DP 8.1

and, if I have scared you enough, for DP 7
