Maybe I am mis-understanding what you want to do. Certainly, if you export media from the4 IDB, you should be able to Format it with no problem. Right-click on the slot, pick Scan, pick a device,it should come back as "Data Protector Foreign". Right-click on it again, and pick Format, make sure that you choose the Option 'Force'
