I will try to express my question from different angle. I am talking about StoreOnce Software deduplication and DP 9.0. The data between DA and MA are always not deduplicated, the data between MA (gateway) and StoreOnce Software are deduplicated for source and server deduplication, but not for target deduplication. Only one MA (gateway) can connect to the StoreOnce Software store. Another MA can connect to different store one the same machine, same root folder, but the stores are independent. I hope this is correct.
When DP reads from the store (object copy), can it use different MA? This is not clear from the documentation but I assume that the same MA gateway must be used.
With this in mind, I see no way how I can use deduplication to minimize data traffic between A and D with the following setup:
Client DA with DA and data I want to backup, LocationA
Client MA with MA (gateway), any suitable location
Client S with StoreOnce Software and deduplicated storage, any suitable location
Client T with LTO-4 tape unit, LocationB
The matter is that because MA is bound to the store (that's why it is called gateway), MA is the point where non deduplicate data are written and non deduplicated data are read. No matter where S is located, there is no way to transfer them between LocationA and LocationB in deduplicated form.
Do I miss something?
Kind regards, Jan
EDIT: Most probably I dont get the concept of one gateway per deduplication store correctly. can you please elaborate what it means? With one gateway per store, how can I restore data stored with source deduplication on different machine? The manual says:
"If the backup was performed with source-side deduplication enabled and the restore is performed to a client on
which source-side gateways are not supported, an ordinary gateway will be used instead."
How can I use another gateway for the same store??
