  • (1)does deduplication also compress the chunks?
  • I don't think so

-------------

  • (2) How can I tune logging of storeoncesoftware service? The command line options lists –-log_path and –-log_level are documented to adjust logging however it is not easy to pass them to the storeoncesoftware windows service. The only option that worked for me is to use "sc start storeoncesoftware --log_path=... --log_level=...". I did not found a way to make the settings permanent. Without any setting the logs are stored in OmniBack\tmp folder. Default level is not documented, with "information" it logs too much and with "notice" almost nothing. The process also logs into Windows EventLog, see bellow1
  • So far as I can tell the "–-log_path and –-log_level " can only be used with the commands
  • On Windows using command “sc start StoreOnceSoftware ”
  • On Linux using command “/opt/omni/lbin/StoreOnceSoftware --daemon

I was not aware that these were not persistent values, logging usually is

3) My EventLog gets spammed with warnings about low memory (starting at 25%), in certain times I get 1 warning message per second and EventLog is filled up with useless data. Can I adjust the warning level? Can I get the warning only when the free memory percentage changes instead of bursts of warnings with the same % level in few seconds? Can I get the warning written to log files?

Messages like this are usually issued from Notifications file.  I checked mine, and did not see anything that directly related to StoreOnce

I did see 2 'omnirc' environment variables that may account for this:

OB2_STOREONCESOFTWARE_DISK_SPACE_THRESHOLD=

%

This option is to set a threshold for the free disk space (see Low disk space warning).

Default: 10% (Range: 1% - 95%)

OB2_STOREONCESOFTWARE_MINIMUM_DISK_SPACE=

n

This option controls the minimum disk space (in MB) the StoreOnceSoftware needs to reserve. If this minimum is reached, writing data to any stores will fail. Default: 1000 (Minimum: 500)

but, neither one of them talks about anything close to 24%

(4) How can I manually initiate store housekeeping procedures?

This is not something that can be configured by Data Protector, rather, it must be done from the D2D User console

On the D2D Web Management Interface go to the

Administration – Housekeeping tab;

I think that it might be a good idean for you to have the Best Practices document, so, I will attach it to this thread

[90:64] Cannot unload exchanger medium (Unrecognized StoreOnce Error)

This will probably require a case to be opened
