We had this problem with Data Protector 7.

 

Turned out to be the reverse lookup (PTR) record was missing for the client.

 

Adding the client to the hosts file on the cell manager is a work around (that does work) but the real solution is to make sure the forward and reverse DNS records for the client exist on your DNS servers. Same goes for the cell manager - make sure the forward and reverse records are OK.
