(DP) Support Tip: Cell Manager installation fails into passive node using Windows 2012 cluster

During new CM installation following error message is received

[NORMAL] Global options file has been upgraded.
[NORMAL] Notification file data has been upgraded.
[NORMAL_DETAIL] Service Data Protector Inet started.
[NORMAL_DETAIL] Cluster resource CRS brought online.
[NORMAL_DETAIL] Cluster resource Application Server brought online.
[NORMAL_DETAIL] Cluster resource IDB brought online.
[NORMAL_DETAIL] Cluster resource IDB connection pool brought online.
[CRITICAL] Restarting service Data Protector Application Server failed.
[CRITICAL_DETAIL] Stopping the service Data Protector Application Server failed during service restart process.
[CRITICAL_DETAIL] Starting the service Data Protector Application Server failed during service restart process.
[WARNING] Reloading the Application Server configuration data timed out before completion.
[NORMAL] Installation server successfully imported.
[CRITICAL] Installation on node "clusternode" has failed (1)

Event viewer show following messages

Information 8/11/2016 6:17:49 PM MsiInstaller 1033 None Windows Installer installed the product. Product Name: HPE Data Protector A.09.07. Product Version: 09.00.1023. Product Language: 1033. Manufacturer: Hewlett Packard Enterprise. Installation success or error status: 1603.
Error 8/11/2016 6:17:49 PM MsiInstaller 11327 None Product: HPE Data Protector A.09.07 -- Error 1327.Invalid Drive: F:\

OB2DBG debugs for installation show:

[ 99] INFO: Action start 18:17:49: CostFinalize.
[ 99] ERROR: Error 1327.Invalid Drive: F:\

DP installation fails because PROGRAMDATA is set to "F:\Program Files\Omniback" which is location on shared disk and is not available on both nodes at same time. INSTALLDIR and PROGRAMDATA should be same on both nodes and point to local disk.
 
Following procedure should correct this issue:
  • Make primary node active
  • Start Data Protector Uninstallation
  • Check if it is properly uninstalled from both nodes (if not then uninstall DP components manually)
  • Check registry keys on both nodes:
“HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hewlett-Packard\OpenView\OmniBackII\Common\HomeDir” should be a folder on local disk (default: C:\Program Files\OmniBack)
“HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hewlett-Packard\OpenView\OmniBackII\Common\DataDir” should be a folder on local disk (default: C:\ProgramData\OmniBack)
“HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hewlett-Packard\OpenView\OmniBackII\Cluster\SharedPath” should be a folder on shared cluster disk (in this cluster: "F:\Program Files\Omniback")
  • On active node start DP installation from DP 9.07 Installation Server depot which should be accessible from both nodes. (DP IDB and Configuration must be reused during DP installation)
  • Copy files from patched DP IS system to same location on both cluster nodes:
    <DP_HOME_DIR>\BDL907_patch
    <DP_DATA_DIR>\Config\Server\install\patch_*
