Thanks for your reply. I will look in to this. My ProgramData folder does not have a space, but my Program Files does. I had ignored this because this advisory read as if it was not an issue:
Also FYI ... I am currently running v8.10 and attempting to patch to v8.12. My upgrade from 7.0 to 8.10 in this scenario was successful.
... and if I run a clean install of the environment (no database) and then patch to 8.12 it succeeds.
I will test this to rule it out.

not able to install Cell Manager 9
Dear Sir,
we are not able to install the HP Data Protector Cell Manager 9 from the trail image.
the error is: there is no any option to allow us installing the Cell Manager.

i tried to download it many time but with same issue.

I usually see much better dedupe results. Have you considered that you have many pre-compressed data (pictures, archives, encrypted files) inside your Exchange databases?

Thanks, I don't think that compression has anything to do with deduplication. I was just expecting that large attachments that are shared between several mailboxes will be deduped. Maybe there are not so many of them, but usually you send those inside company, so sender and at least one recipient. What are ratios you achieve?
I did not found any settings that affects deduplication.

Don't unterestimate the negative impact of compression on deduplication. Usually you will see better dedupe results if you store more copies (of the same backup) on the dedupe target. If you look at the job, you should look at the per object and overall dedupe ratio. Personally I think the overall dedupe ratio is not calculated correctly. Here is a per object result where I keep 14 copies on disk.

I see...I was talking about dedup ratio after one single full backup to empty store. Of course subsequent full backups should achieve high ratio per object provided the object data doesn' change a lot.

StoreOnceSoftware questions
Hi,
bellow is a set of questions that poped in my head after reading documentation and some test with deduplication, DP 9.0:
- (1)does deduplication also compress the chunks?
- (2) How can I tune logging of storeoncesoftware service? The command line options lists –-log_path and –-log_level are documented to adjust logging however it is not easy to pass them to the storeoncesoftware windows service. The only option that worked for me is to use "sc start storeoncesoftware --log_path=... --log_level=...". I did not found a way to make the settings permanent. Without any setting the logs are stored in OmniBack\tmp folder. Default level is not documented, with "information" it logs too much and with "notice" almost nothing. The process also logs into Windows EventLog, see bellow
- (3) My EventLog gets spammed with warnings about low memory (starting at 25%), in certain times I get 1 warning message per second and EventLog is filled up with useless data. Can I adjust the warning level? Can I get the warning only when the free memory percentage changes instead of bursts of warnings with the same % level in few seconds? Can I get the warning written to log files?

- (4) How can I manually initiate store housekeeping procedures? Say I want to empty the store, this is my current procedure:
- delete all sessions stored in storage
- export all storage media
- ** now I want to manually initiate housekeeping procedures so the store is physically emptied but instead I have to do the next steps **
- delete the device
- stop the store and delete the store using storeoncessoftware CLI (sometimes stop doesn't work, service stop/start is needed)
- after store is deleted, storeoncesoftware physically removes the data and store is emptied
- recreate the device and store
- (5) how can I reinitialize the storeoncesoftware so that new store root must be created? Someone (probably me) deleted some important file from the store and found no way how to reinitialize it. I had to uninstall StoreOnceSoftware, delete store root and reinstall StoreOnceSoftware.
- (6) Several times I got strange errors from storeoncesoftware once the backups were done. I have found no log entries on the storeoncesoftware node, just pool medium status is Inactive/Aborted. All the session data were delete from the store (store is empty).

Is there any way I can create a report to out put media_list_extended plus the Mode? Running a list of sessions doesn't give the label and running media list doesn't show the mode.

Re: HP-UX: Move DB40 from DP 6.0 to DP 7.0
I got the Itanium 11.31 system installed with 6.20 and migrated the IDB to the new system (and it works OK - I'm taking backups and can see all the old media). However, the upgrade to 7.0 (omnisetup.sh) failed completely saying that the databasae version is 6.00 and aborted the install:

ERROR: Unknown/unsupported Data Protector database version detected
on system.
Data Protector software can not function properly with this
database. Refer to documentation for manual upgrade
procedure after the installation.

The GUI, omnidb -version, all report version 6.20, and the database was converted from 32 to 64 bit successfully during the 6.0 to 6.20 migration. But when I list the version files:

However, for this:

I think that the problem is the % symbols. Try taking those out to see if it makes any difference

Messages like this are usually issued from Notifications file. I checked mine, and did not see anything that directly related to StoreOnce
I did see 2 'omnirc' environment variables that may account for this:

This option is to set a threshold for the free disk space (see Low disk space warning).
Default: 10% (Range: 1% - 95%)

This option controls the minimum disk space (in MB) the StoreOnceSoftware needs to reserve. If this minimum is reached, writing data to any stores will fail. Default: 1000 (Minimum: 500)
but, neither one of them talks about anything close to 24%
