License Management, Upgrade and Migration is done via the HP PoeticWeb Portal.

If you only have the LicenseKey you won't get far there, Entitlement Certificate or EON are usually required.

 

To install a License Key use "omnicc -install_license password" or in GUI under Client-Context rightklick on DataProtector Cell and select "add license".

 

If you change the IP of your CellServer you have to migrate all your licenses, including Tapedrives, Library and Online-Licenses. They are all bound to an IP-Address and are invalid once this IP is no longer configured on the Server.

 

One Option that still should work is keeping the old IP on an unused Interface on the Server, that keeps the Licenses vailid and usable.

If it suddenly appears without changes on the Clients or CellServer I tend to say its the Target.

Maybe your D2D Device is busy reorganizing Data and therefore slows down.

 

PS: Parameter OB2SHMIPC=0 is somewhat questionable, can cause quite a reduction in Backup-Speed, in my case 25% on a SQL-Job. Novice Support-Guys often suggest it without knowing if it helps or what it actually does. Most likely not relevant to your problem, still should be mentioned.

Backup Navigator collecting issues

Hi Community,

 

i have installed HP Backup Navigator 9.1 in a test environment (CentOS6.6) as a proof of concept for one of my customers.

Noerror during installation. Creatingthe databaseandconnectto theCellManagerwas successful.


But BN collect only Cell- and Deviceinfos. No SessionReports.

From the agent_core.log:

15-06-09 14:52:12 ERROR () SessionReportsManipulation - Cannot fetch full report data: java.lang.NullPointerException
15-06-09 14:52:12 ERROR () SessionReportsManipulation - Error while collecting / inserting session report: java.lang.NullPointerException

 

and

 

15-06-09 15:34:04 FATAL (servername) AgentService - Agent failed: java.lang.NullPointerException
15-06-09 15:34:04 INFO (servername) DBconnect - Agent status changing from 0 to 100

 

Any Ideas?

Install Patch 9.03 on OpenVMS System

Hello there,

 

we have the problem that our restore from OpenVMS always fail with the following error:

Lost connection to Filesystem restore DA named "" on host <hostname>.

 

So i found this:

And it says that this is solved within patch 9.03.

But how do I install it? Mostly the OpenVMS was part of the Windows-Package, but the patch is now just an .EXE-File for Windows and in linux/unix there are no files for openvms.

 

And the install-server never worked for vms.

Unable Generate Keys

Hi All,


One of our HP Data Protector version 7.01 has crashed where we enable drive based encryption on DP level(no software encryption or no Library based encryption), we do not have the older keys as our other drives(Unfortunately) also crashed together.


Now when we try to import the IDB tape we get the following error. Can anyone suggest a way over come this.

 

[90:6111] Error retrieving encryption key. Aborting session.

[90:53] Tape0:0:0:0C
Cannot seek to requested position (Details unknown.)

Unless you have a Backup-Copy or an Export of those Keys you cannot recover those Tapes.

That is why HP recommends to not encyrypt IDB Backups and to do regular separate Backups of the Keys.

Is the backup of the Keys done using omnikeytool -export?

yes, that is one option

If you have such a csv export of the required keys you can import them again to decrypt and recover the Backup.

The First System in a new DataProtector Cell has to be the CellManager, that is the Server that controls and coordinates all Backup-Jobs and keeps Record over what has been backed up.

It is one of the Options in the Installer, one of the First pages in Windows-Wizard asks the type (CellManager, InstallServer or Client). On Linux/Unix you install it via omnisetup.sh -CM.

Dataprotector - scheduled copies don't start

Hello,

 

On Dataprotector 7, scheduled copies don't start at the scheduled time.

If we start manually the copy, it's working properly. These copies have working during years...

 

I see noting in debug.log.

I try to create "test" copy, same problem.

I try to replan the schedule, same problem

 

Do you have an idea to solse this problem?

Do other Jobs (Backups, Reporting) work when using the Scheduler or do you use it only for Copies?

In latter case please check if omnitrig is active and restart it if required (omnitrig -stop, omnitrig -start).

OmniDLC - automatic setup of allowed Servers

Hi Everybody

 

Some time ago the Utility omnidlc (DebugLogCollector) was introduced to query, fetch and clear Debug-Logs and Traces on all Servers of the Cell directly from CellServer.

Unfortunatly they also introduced a security feature with that, by default only the CellServer Hostname in the CellServer File on the Client is allowed access.

Fine for Environments with only one Network and Standalone Servers, bad for Multi-Network and Clustered CellServers.

 

You can create a File called omnidlc_hosts on the Client that contains other Hostnames/IPs that are granted access, but that means manually creating it local on each Client.

 

Did anybody figure out another convenient way to create or update that file from remote, f.E. the CellServer?
