To add to Stewart's answer, if hardware encryption is being used, you should see some session messages telling you as much. You try running an object verification job for one or two test tapes to see if that is reported or not. Does your organization use an external Secure Key Manager appliance? It's possible that your drive keys are being managed externally, though you should still see an informational message about that in the session reports.

It looks the Session Manager is triggering a backup but the Oracle Agent doesn't connect back in 10 minutes, leading to a failure. On the Oracle side, the problem seems to be that the agent can't find the cell manager to connect to. It would be best to double check your client's configuration, and if nothing can be found to be at fault, to create debugs and get in touch with your support contact.

PROBLEM
In the more recent Data Protector versions, The StoreOnceSoftware service or daemon is being stopped during the installation of any (StoreOnce) patch or bundle. Sometimes this is leading to an error like this:
"Post-reinstallation script for the StoreOnce Software Deduplication failed with ...."
The setup logs of the bundle installation can usually be found somewhere under:
C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Temp
The issue that occurred is possibly this:

ERROR_SERVICE_ALREADY_RUNNING

An instance of the service is already running.
So, the script was trying to start the service even before it was fully stopped.

Stop all stores and the service/daemon before starting the installation.

There is no change in report format, omnirpt binary seems to execute those external scripts differently. Workaround is to set full path to script in report definition

When the cell server is not registerred in DNS, the standard form of omnigencert.pl may fail to create all needed cell server server and client certificate files :
perl omnigencert.pl -server_id <servername> -user_id hpdp -store_password <password>
If files like ca.truststore, server.truststore are missing in certificates directory, it may help to use an extended form of the command :
perl omnigencert.pl -server_id <servername> -server_san dns:<servername> -user_id hpdp -store_password <password>
PS: make sure you use correct store password, as defined in AppServer config files.
Just got this few days ago when trying to update from 8.10 to 8.14. I uninstalled the patch, restarted the CM server, then i was able to update without any issue.

Remember also to restart DP services after generating a new SSL cert. Otherwise, the AS is still using the old cert it loaded on last startup, and your GUI still will not connect.

You can backup filesystem mounted by you new VDM using "physical" server_2 DM. You just need to check mount point running following command:
server_mount ALL
Then, in Dataprotector backup job specify filesystem mount point as viewed by server_2 DM.

I'm running DP 9 on a Windows 2012 R2 virtual machine. This replaced the Cell Manager that Ed and I originally were pointing two when you put together the VNX Snapshot scripting for me.
I have a client running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.7 (updated to latest patches) on a physical server (Proliant DL380) that I'm trying to use as a media server to stream data to tape.
Server is connected to fibre channel switches and zoned to see two Quantum Scalar i80 tape libraries.
When I look in the dmesg output, I can see the libraries (changers and tape drives) showing up. However, when I try to use the matching device entries for the changer with the uma command, I get either one of two results, neither successes. The command I'm trying is:
echo stat x | /opt/omni/lbin/uma -tty -ioctl <device>
Using /dev/ch0: command executes, but never returns any information (ar at least not within 3 minutes when I aborted it)
Using /dev/sg5: command executes but immediately fails with generic "Segmentation fault (core dumped)" message
I have used this for the past 10 years in various versions of DP, but always from an HPUX server to an HPUX cell manager. When I upgraded to DP8 the cell manager moved to a Red Hat Linux VM, and still worked fine. Even more recently we rolled out the DP9 Windows-based cell manager, and I can do the above commands from a Cygwin shell running on the Windows server that is connected to the libraries through the same switches.
It is only from the Linux server that I'm having this problem.

What happens when you start the uma and run some commands from the uma prompt? You could do this in debug mode (-debug 1-500 DBG) and capture the output and send it together with the generated debugs to support. Obviously, if this would work fine then the problem is most likely not with uma itself and more/other troubleshooting would be required.

I tried to backup and restore with EADR feature but failed. Its look like DR OS image cannot setup network correctly. Then it cannot connect to backup server. The steps in the Disaster recovery guide is too short.
I tried clonezilla to backup and restore from a NFS server its OK. But i want to backup online.
Or If I can't do EADR feature. Is there any guide that steps: I reinstall OS and clients then I can restore backup into the client.
Please help to do so.

You can only backup in standalone mode, cluster aware backups won't work, because they're not supported. Each node can backup shares which are signed to the node and each node has their own changer/tape drive attached. You will have to import each node to DP clients context and then do backups specification for each node and share which belongs to the node.
