Re: Unable to remove sessions from retired servers. HP DP 6.20

well if you dont want session from old servers in your idb (if you dont want to restore anyhing from it) you could export the idb (omnidbutil -writedb command). after that, navigate to the files generated. you should finde a file named "hosts" where all the host from the cell are listed. delete the host which you dont want in your idb anymore. safe the file and do an import (omnidbutil -readdb). after that, you should not find sessions from those hosts and you wont be able to restore anyhting from those hosts.

before you do this, make sure no backup/restore is running, stop dp services with omnisv -stop and copy the whole omniback folder as a backup in case anything went wrong....

Thanks for the reply,

I know, that's the strange thing, nothing has changed with the backup or pool, it's the same as it was when run on Fridays but now that it's on a Saturday the backup just sits there in a 'pending'state as if expecting a tape, but the tape has already been formatted and ready to go. Baffling!!

Hi,

I`ve executed the below commands(omnidbcheck -dc and omnidbcheck -bf), and I saw the location of the corrupt file.

I`ve copied and replaced the file 10af5777_51e7f200_0c98_0001_F8139552.dat from the server 2 with the same file from server 1.

After I`ve run omnidbcheck -extended again and all are ok.

Re: [OCI_LoadLibrary] OCI Library could not be loaded!

What is the OS-type of the server that you are running Oracle on?

I found a couple of lab cases where the problem was that the shared library paths were not being set correctly, for example

LIBPATH=/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/lib
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/lib

This was on a Solaris client that was running Oracle.  On HPUX, it was working just fine

If you can supply the location of your ORACLE_HOME directory, it would be helpful

Please run the following comands from the command prompt of the Oracle server, save the output to a file, and attach it to your next reply

echo $LD_LIBRARY_PATH
echo $SHLIB_PATH
echo $DYNAMIC_PATH
echo $LIBPATH

Also, run the following command on your Oracle server:

   cd /opt/omni/lbin
./util_orarest.exe -OBJS [Oracle instance]           Don't include the [   ] marks

I am only interested to see if this comes back with an error

I am trying to see if the symptoms of the problem match what I am seeing in lab cases.  This proble was reported and fixed with DP 6.2, and, again, with Oracle running on a Solaris system

I suspect that this problem will need to have a case opened with the Response Center eventually, and, if it does, having all of this information ahead of time will help things along

Re: Running scheduled backup on a different day....

As Andre said, Mount Requests are caused by not having enough media in the media pool that can be written to.  In over 17 years supporting Omniback/Data Prtoector, I have never seen a change in schedule cause a Mount Request

In your backup specification, go to the Destination tab.  Expand the checked Tape Library.  Right-click on a drive, and pick Properties.  Make a note of what media pool is selected, even if it says <No Media Pool Selected>

Go to Devices and Media, find the same Tape Library, and expand it. Expand Drives.  Right-click on the same drive you checked in the Backup specification, and get Properties.  Click on the Advanced tab, and see what the Default Media Pool is, which is what DP would be using if you saw <No Media Pool Selected>

Go back to your Library, and single-click on the word 'Slots', and you will see all the storage slots displayed.  Click on the column header 'Pool' to sort the media by media pool.  Find the Media pool being used by this backup.  You must have some media there whose condition is Green (Good) and whose Protection is either None or Expired

If you heve Barcode support enabled, do a Barcode Scan to bring the IDB up to date

To add to what Andre said, check for old sessions in the Internal Database context.  If you find any old sessions, determine what media was used for that session, and export it

Usually just doing a 'writedb/readdb' will clean this up, I wasn't aware of the solution that Andre offered

It actually looks like your 'omnir' command was done correctly, there are no syntax errors, except for not finding the 'tree', maybe it needs a \ instead of a /, as shown in my documentation

The main problem is not connecting to INET on the server 'bkvirtuales'.  On that server, please be sure that the Data Protector iNET service is running, and, if it not, turn it on manually

OS is LINUX. HP DP IS 8.0

Oralcle is 11.2.0

i have 3 Instances of Oracle running on same server.

2 of them are working fine when clicking on restore but 1 is only giving problem.

[root@testapp lbin]# ./util_orarest.exe -EBSPROD

This is a known issue with MS windows 2008 R2 due to their change in the Cache manager

UNDER the DPHOME\db40\datafiles\catalog

You will find the RDMSERVER.ini

under the [Engine]

add the line

WindowsFileRandomAccessFlag=no

Save the file and restart the services...

Thanks for your time Bob,

I know it sound ridiculous and that it's highly likely nothing to do with the schedule but I checked everything you suggested (Which I have done many times before!), and its all as it should be. In the destination tab of the backup the pool that is selected is the same as the one in Devices and Media. In the Pool the media that has been formatted to run this week is green and there is no protection.

Like I've said it was stuck in pending Saturday gone, I'm going to change to run this Friday (With no changes) and see what happens

PS We don't have Barcode support enabled

All I could find on RETVAL*1030 ws a corner case, that is, a case for one specific occurrance of this error

Is your Oracle configuration using "Automatic Storage Management (ASM)".  This is not often used, and normally, when doing a Zero downtime backup.  When using ASM, a check is made if this is a ZDB, and if not, the '1030' error is thrown

This goes back to DP 6.21, so I don't know if this has any validity

A similiar problem in DP 6.20

       computer1(orasac):/opt/omni/lbin> ./util_oracle8.pl -config -dbname SAC /oracle/bin/SAC/102>
        *RETVAL*1030

was fixed with a test binary, with no explanation of what caused it

Your issue  is the way you defined your backup job

Connecting to Volume Shadow Copy Service.

If you want to use  VSS Transportable Backup.. this is the equivalent of Microsoft to our Exchange Instant Recovery.. so you need to have a Hardware provider in order to create the transportable snapshot

Rededine a new job

At the first screen select instead LOCAL OR NETWORK BACKUP instead of the VSS Transportable backup ( Unless you do have an EVA or an XP DISK ARRAY or any other 3rd party that will provide you with the hardware provider to manage the snapshots / copies )

hope this help you

Re: Running scheduled backup on a different day....

The other possibility here is a corrupt media pool

If your Friday scheduled backup also fails with a Mount Request, and, if you create a new backup using the same media pool, and it also fails with a Mount REquest, I would suspect a corrupt media pool

There is a way to fix that, but lets see what happens after you change your schedule.  Also, you can create teh test backup and run it whenever you want

Yes it is running ASM.

Would i be able to restore using RMAN console or not?

What is the solution its production backup

Please open a case with the response center.  Include as many details of our conversation as you can

Since the only thing I found was with an older version of DP, this has to be considered a new problem, and analyzed by engineering

Re: Help for Virtual environnement, licences

$

The backup of the Virtual Environment does not require any additional licenses

If you were to add Applications Integration to any of the Virtual machines, you would need additional On-Line extension licenses

If you were planning on using Granular Recovery Extension (GRE), each server that is using this would require a GRE license

You need enough singe-drive licenses for the number of drives you are going to be running simutaneously.  If you are going to be using a File Library or a Virtual Tape library, you need Advanced Backup to Disk licenses based on the total possible capacity of the disk device

We are not able to give you prices (mostly because I am totally clueless), this should be done by talking to a pre-sales specialist

Re: Error reading tapes that were formatted 1024k

What is the HBA used on the tape drive in your new data center ??

The invalid parameters is coming from the HBA layer normally

If using a  SAS P212 controller.. you will need at least P212 with 256 megs not the ZM model if you want to address block size > 64 kb...

Best regards
