Hello,

DP CM = Windows 2012 R2, A.09.06

Clinet= Windows 2008 R2, Exchnage 2010, DP A.09.06

I was able to restore single mail using DP GRE in past successfully but when I go to restore the same today using DP GRE it gives me error "MMC could not create the snap in".

Could not load file or assembly 'ExchangeGre.MmcGui, Version=9.0.87.1410, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=0f50e57bde87476d' or one of its dependencies. The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131040)

Any help how to fix this issue. I am getting same error on both node of exchnage server for DP GRE.

Regards,

You can select the Backuphost, Different VCenter, different DataCenter etc in the second tab(page) in the restore context.

rman multi restore sessions DP 9.07

since going from 9.06 to 9.07 we are having an issue  with RMAN restores - we backup to 2 tapes using 16 streams and this runs as one DP session

When we instigate a RMAN restore we see 16 restore sessions started in DP with the tapes being used in 2 of the sessions so the others are all sat there waiting as the tapes are in use

Prior to 9.07 we saw one restore session with 16 streams running concurrently

Is this some new feature of 9.07 and is there a way to get back to how it was previously ie one session

I have tried putting the 9.06 libob2oracle8_64bit.so into the 9.07 /opt/omni/lib directory and we had the same result

we are running the cell manager on HPUX 11.31  DP 9.07 and the rman restore is also on a client running HPUX  11.31

Any ideas appreciated

If I understand correctly , you want to restore data via SAN method on different client machine (example client B)

if it is so, you need to zone the tape drives to client B. Then configure tape drives to client B in data protector (under devices and media). Then while performing restore , you can change the device and select the tape drives assigned to client B . The restore will run via SAN.

vmware 4.1 is not supported by DP .x

SLES 10 (32 bit)  is supported (Disk agent and media agent)

ubuntu 12.x (x64) is supported (Disk agent), X32 not supported.

Sebastian,

Thanks for the clarification.  My database grew a lot early and as we import more servers from other cells it keeps growing, but it appears to have stabilized.  The only thing I'd say is make it easier to install DP to something OTHER than C:.  I don't like my C: drives getting real big, and we generally like to keep apps off the C: on our servers.

I do think the integration with StoreOnce Catalyst has been a good thing in terms of media management and keeping the database size under control.  It has really reduced our media management workload.

All previous comments about DP 9 aside, it has allowed me to (at this point) consolidate some 40 cells into one, and another dozen or so will soon join the consolidation.

Thanks

Ken

Hi brits,

I cannot share any screenshots here since most of this is customer specific and contains sensitive data. What I can tell you is that it works well in case you take care of the following items to make things smooth.

  • In case of DR the DR Cell Manager should be reconfigured with the same FQDN and IP address
  • The destination CM should have the same directory structure as the source system
  • Have the media kit and patches ready in the DR site
  • General preparation such as know where the recent IDB backup resides (media.log or omnirpt output)
  • The DR CM should have access to the backup media where the recent IDB backup resides

If the source system is a cluster (Microsoft Failover Cluster, Serviceguard, etc.) things getting more complicated. In general the DR CM should be a cluster, too. If not manual adjustments will take addional time.

Especially with older Data Protector A.09.00 releases the following global option should be defined (also on the DR CM) to make IDB recovery (log replay) work well.

DbRecoveryTimeout=30

Since the backup does not work connect to the client in question and remove the Data Protector software completely.

Then do a fresh client installation from GUI using push installation (Client context => Add client, remember to specify credentials in Options tab) OR run setup from the Omniback share on the Windows installation server and import the client from GUI using Import Client from Clients context.

If the job was configured correctly in the past it should run. If not, you need to reconfigure the SAP integration. You can check the integration guide in the Docs folder on your Cell Manager for this.

  • In case of DR the DR Cell Manager should be reconfigured with the same FQDN and IP address

is it mandatory to have same IP and cell manager name at DR site as well ?

In DR site , the IP and cell manager names are different from production server but the domain name is same in both sites. If your point is related to DP license , I will be using emergency license key which includes all features & functionality of DP.

The DP is running on MS cluster on prod site. The same configuration is done at DR site cell manager also. (Like IDB is running on SAN drive , drive letter is kept same , path is also same)

I need some steps to follow to ensure I am doing IDB restore correctly , without missing anything.

Yes, IP is only required for sake of the licenses. The hostname is highly recommended because the clients all registred to it, the AppServer and other configuration files point to the hostname of the Cell Manager.
