Re: Data Protector 6.0 FC2242SR MSL4048 G3 and PCI-e DC HBA

thanks for answering, the system is operating properly so as the two Charger Media Drives.

The problem is that Data Protector can not automatically configure the library and drives. I would rule out a problem of compatibility:

Is there a problem with this configuration? Should work?

Cell Manager / Media Agent 6.0 Windows Server 2003 SP3 32 Bits

FC2242SR PCI-e DC HBA

MSL4048 G3

Direct connection between the HBA and MSL4048 G3.

I will try to run the command to manually configure the library in Data Protector

c:\Program Files \ Omniback \ bin

devbra-dev

When I do I mention the results

Where do I set the concurrency in the StoreOnce device? Is this the same as setting it in the backup specification?

I did run the initial full job using a concurrency of 7 in the backup spec. My thought was that this would get 7 objects deduplicating simultaneously and without this, once again, it would be working on only one object at a time, and thus be very slow. I'm willing to start all over from the initial full if that's what it takes. Just looking for how to do this right.

Concurrency is set in the backup specification, in the Destination tab, under Properties for the device(s).  There is a way to set it on the device itself, but, the Concurrency setting in the Backup specification over-rides that of the device, and, frankly, I don't see any use of setting concurrency on the device

Hello!

Did anybody have luck with P212? I'm trying to use HP StoreEver 6650 LTO-6 driver with P212/256MB HBA and get the same error message from LTFS utility.  I use the latest firmware/drivers available for Windows 2012 R2.

Can the HBA backup battery have anything to do with that?

The error that you are getting indicates that the catalog created from the backup is either corrupted, or is no longer in the IDB

Get the session ID from the backup that you are trying to restore from

Check to make sure that the backup that you are trying to retore from was successful

Check the backup to be sure that it is still protected

omnidb -session [session_id] -detail            Do not include the [     ] marks

Check the Media used for the backup to be sure it was not written over

omnidb -session [session_id] -media           Do not include the [     ] marks

Bob,

Thanks for the reply, I was wondering if i would have to recreate the library, which is a pain.

You're process below,  you are correct i remoevd the drive from the repository so thats no good.

you say to do

Next, do a 'writedb/readdb' of the Media Management database

        omnidbutil -writedb -mmdb [temp_dir]

        omnidbutil -readdb -mmdb [temp_dir]

Is this to make sure you can bring the backups to the why they were before? If so we have a data protector installed on a virtual machine so i could just make a snapshot and should anything go wrong revert back to that.

So if i'm right i can just delete the librray and create a new one? how do i update it so it knows where the files are currently? because i can understand that i can add the folders back in, but i guess it automatically have its database up to date to say where files are for restores etc?

Thanks

The purpose of the 'writedb/readdb' is to, among other things, remove unwanted items from the IDB.  If you have a session that is still protected, this will not be touched, and, since the procedure does not touch your configured backups, it will have no affect on these

I think that your idea of being able to copy the DP installation to another Virtual machine is a good one, I normally recommend that DP be stopped, and copies of the IDB and the Configuration files be saved before doing anything like this, but, making a copy of the VIrtual machine will serve the same purpose

Well, here is the reason that you cannot restore

Object name : **********:/Microsoft Exchange Writer(Exchange Information Store)/Mic
rosoft Information Store/96b8a312-65c1-403f-b036-09380f62c55e/File

Catalog retention  : Same as data protection. - (Missing media)

Object name : **********:/Microsoft Exchange Writer(Exchange Information Store)/Mic

Protection         : Not protected - (Missing media)
Catalog retention  : Same as data protection. - (Missing media)

==================

Object name : **********:/96b8a312-65c1-403f-b036-09380f62c55e/Database1

Protection         : Protected for 5 days (Expired)
Catalog retention  : Same as data protection.

=====================

which is one of the things that I mentioned as a possibility for causing this problem:

"Check the backup to be sure that it is still protected"

My guess is that the media protection expired, the Catalog was deleted, and the media 'FilePool_298' was written over.  You can check this by running

          omnimm -list_media FilePool_298 -detail

Hi I need to upgrade my data protector from 6.20 version to 8.10. In the installation manual they have mentioned to take the backup of Internal Database Sever, but they didnt mentioned how to do it. Could anyone help me out on this issue, Thanks

This might also work for you

omnirpt -report session_statistics -timeframe [start date] [finish date] -log [filename]

The timeframe can be stated either in absolute terms, for example

      omnirpt -report session_statistics -timeframe 2014/01/21 00:01 2014/01/27 23:59 -log C:\week_4_stats.txt

or in relative terms based on the time the command is issued

      omnirpt -report session_statistics -timeframe 72 72 -log C:\3_days.txt

You can add an argument '-tab' to seperate the fields with 'tab' characters, which will preent truncating of a field, and make the report suitable for import into Excel

     omnirpt -report session_statistics -timeframe 72 72 -tab -log C:\3_days.txt

or, if you want the output file in a nice HTML format

     omnirpt -report session_statistics -timeframe 72 72 -html -log C:\3_days.htm

There are also filters to include only certain datalists, or to exclude what you don't want.  All of this can be found in the CLI (Command Line Interpreter) Guide in the GUI by clicking 'Help -> Guides'

I'm having the same issue but don't have the memory upgrade so maybe that's the problem.   How do I check my P212 firmware revision?

In addition to enabling the encrypted communications, you should generate a new and unique set of keys.   The default keys are the same for every installation. They are copied straight from installation media and are not created during the install.

It's only a matter of time before someone figures that out and updates the exploit script.

Jim,

The only problem with that idea (don't get me wrong, it's common sense and a good one) is that I seem to recall somewhere along the line in my two-year upgrade struggle with 6.2 and ECC (boy, 7.03 went a lot better!) I asked about using certs OTHER than the default and was told they either weren't supported or flat wouldn't work.

HP SUPPORT STAFF: Please confirm that recollection of mine or feel free to blow it out of the water.  Whichever is accurate.

Bob,

I went the other way with concurrency.  I DO set the default on the devices when I create them in DP - ESPECIALLY on all of my Storeonce virtual drives (set to 1).  One less thing I have to do when I do a backup spec.

Now, I agree on physical tape - I'll set a default of 4, but more often than not I do change it based on what I'm copying to tape.

you need the cache battery for setting blocksize in dp higher than 64k. recommended for lto is (at least) 256kb blocksize

you can find mor information about fw from your hba for example  when you have hp array configuration utility installed.
