Error connecting BAR2 to DMA

Hi,

From last 2 days we are facing problem with SAPDB MaxDB database…the problem started all of sudden we have not changed anything and there is no problem while taking File system backup.

We are able to ping resolve the DNS name without any problem from Cell Manager and DP client. And also when I preview the SAPDB backup no problem only while taking SAPDB backup we are getting error as below,

I have also changed the parameter in global file as below but still same problem.

BackupDeviceIdle=1200
SmWaitForNewBackupClientSec=1200
SmWaitForFirstBackupClientSec=1200

One thing I notice is that when I start manually the backup it is taking little long time to start the backup earlier it should start immediately. So I am guessing it is not able to resolve the name quickly or something is stopping/pausing to start the processes. But when I ping both Cell Manager and DP client from command prompt no problem.

Thanks,

Narendra

Greetings,

I updated my DP 8.0 to 8.1

Afterwards I am not able to open the GUI. It asks me for username and password, but the domain username and password are not working.

I searched the forums and tried the "omnigencert.pl" procedure which also did not help

Can anyone give me an idea of what I am missing here.

Appreciate all the help

Thanks

Saad

I would suggest that on the Media Agent that controls this drive, from the MS-DOS prompt

      cd \Program Files\Omniback\bin

      devbra -dev

and see what is found in the category of 'Tape'.  It should contain a serial number and a SCSI path.  Just type in the SCSI path that you see from this command into the empty field for the tape library

Your version of DP is very much out of support

I checked several lab cases, and have these suggestions:

Delete, or comment out the file

SmWaitForFirstBackupClientSec=1200

and, in its place, add

SmWaitForFirstBackupClient=600

This value is expressed in MInutes instead of seconds (1200 seconds is 20 minutes)

I'm not sure about this one, it seems to me that 20 minutes would be plenty long enough

You did not state what version of DP you have, but I found that versions 6.21, 7.01, and 8.x have been patched to fix this problem.  It appears that 2 shared libraries were not loading successfully

Importing IDB

Greetings,

I wanted to ask If there is a way to actually Import the IDB (backup session details) and DEVICE configuration (tape drives etc) from 8.0 to 8.10 ?

We installed 8.10 on a windows 2008 R2 server... 8.0 version was also running on a Windows 2008 R2 version.

Is it possible to import IDB from 8.0 version ?

Thanks

Saad

This is a known problem, and is fixed this way:

we have a parsing bug in the omnigencert.pl and that procedure below does not work, since it always takes default value.

To fix customer case, there might be many, follow the following procedure:

  • Find in /etc/opt/omni/client/components/webservice.properties the keystore password
  • cd to /opt/omni/sbin directory
  • regenerate the certificate using the following command:
  • perl omnigencert.pl –server_id <FQDN of your server> -user_id hpdp -store_password <Your keystore password> -cert_expire <number of days less than 24 * 365>
  • omnisv stop
  • omnisv start

Alternatively, for now, just search the perl script for '24 * 365' and replace it with '10 * 365'.

There is going to be a corrected version of  'omnigencert.pl '

I checked the Product Announcemetns Guide, and the Installation and Licensing GUide, and did not see anything about having to do any type of IDB conversion as would have to be done when upgrading from 6.21 or 7.x, the only thing I found to be aware of is this:

On HP-UX 11.31 (Itanium) and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (x86-64) the maximum size of database files can exceed the default maximum size of 2 GB. Consequently, during an upgrade to Data Protector 8.10 a warning message is displayed with an advice to adjust the maximum size of database files. This adjustment should be done after the upgrade, as it may take a significant amount of time, depending on the database size. See "Troubleshooting upgrade" .

I would think that you could stop DP on the original server, make a copy of

   ProgramData -> Omniback -> Server -> db80

and copy it to a temporary folder on the new cell manager, stop DP there, and put the copied 'db80' folder in the place of the existing one.  Start DP and run

   cd \Program Files\Omniback\bin

   omnidbutil -show_cell_name            which should show the cell name fo the original cell server

   omnidbutil -change_cell_name        which should change ownership of the IDB to the current cell manager

Hi Bob,

I tried the procedure but now the omnisv -start is not able to startup the idb service

here is the error i get.

Cannot start "hpdp-idb" service, system error:

The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

I tried replacing back the db80 file, but still the same

any ideas?, maybe a log file i can check to see what exactly is the issue ?

Thanks

Saad

DP 8.1 had this problem, and I think we finally figured it out

Problem:

During the update to DP 8.1, the hpdp-idb service does not start.
As a consequence, the import of the IDB (core update) does not work and needs to be repeated.

The update to DP 8.1 creates a file "C:\Program"and does not clean it up after the installation:

The solution consists of the sequence of the following steps (assuming that common path C:\Program Files\OmniBack has been used).

1)
Delete the file "C:\Program".

2) Do "omnisv stop" and "omnisv start".

3) Use "omnisv status" to check that all services have been started.

You may not find the file \Program in C:, it depends on how you installed DP.  But, in general, if you see a '\Program File or folder, stop DP, delete the file/folder, try to restart DP

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the reply and i have followed your suggestion and added

SmWaitForFirstBackupClient=600

We have DP version as below,

HP Data Protector A.06.20: OMNICC, internal build PHSS_42602/DPSOL_00464/DPLNX_00170(b621), built on Fri Dec  9 18:22:14 2011

But as i said SAPDB backup was working without any problem for last 2 years this problem has come suddenly from last 2 days we have not made any changes to the DP or anything on server.

So i am surprised what it cause that now i am not able to take SAPDB backup...filesystem backup no problem and also preview of SAPDB backup no problem.

It will be good if you can let me know what could have cause this problem. As i have observe now it is taking little long time to execute the backup i am guessing it is trying to resolve or stopped/pause for a while.

We had that same error.  This is what we did to fix it.

Steps:

1. Stop the services.
2. Create a new certificate using the following command:

"Program Files\OmniBack\bin\perl.exe" "\Program Files\Omniback\bin\omnigencert.pl" -server_id <full qualified DNS/host name> -user_id HPDP -store_password <keystorePassword> -server_san ip:<IP address>

3. Start the services.
4. Try to access the GUI again.

The keystorePassword can be found at:

<ProgramData\OmniBack>\Config\client\components\webservice.properties

You did not specify what type of server SAPDB is running on, but, I would check that server, and see if there are any hanging processes, specifically

sapdbbar

sapdb_backint

util_sapdb

Also, check for

vbda

vrda

bma

rma

mma

Kill any of these that you see

Whether or not you see any hanging processes, stop and restart DP at a time when nothing is running, and run

   /opt/omni/sbin/omnidbutil -clear

If none of this helps, you will probably need to open a case for this problem

Did you get these numbers from the command 'top' or from some other source, like Glance or Measureware?  'top' can be very inaccurate when it comes to DP, at least on older versions of HPUX

StoreOnce Enterprise Manager installation failure

I am unsure wether this is the correct forum section to post on this subject, but since I couldn't find a more suitable one, here it goes...

I've been trying to install the trial version of the StoreOnce Enterprise Manager software on a test environment, due to recomendations on deployment of StoreOnce VSA by HP, and I'm encountering an error which prevents me from completing the installation sucessfully.

The error message seems to be related to user privileges.

So far I have disabled  UAC, given full administrative privileges to the "TrustedInstaller" user group on the installation directory (which is used by the msi installer to access directories and registry keys), and changed the default installation directory, to no effect.

I'm using Windows 7 64 bits.

Can anyone help me?

Queuing Will Always Timeout

Using DP 7 and have never been able to get queuing to work.  It will queue but it always times out even though the drives become empty and are not locked.  We've tried HP Support and got as far as entering just about every trial license there is, but it still times out.  Would appreciate any help - thanks!

Hi,

I have not used it and have no experience with it.

Have you tried installing it with "Run as administrator"? It is sometimes needed even when you are in administrator group.

Hi and thank-you for your suggestions.  I have checked both the rman username/password and the username/password for the db user and both are ok yet DP keeps stating that error.  It's like DP is stuck.  I tried deleting the job and readding it.  Something is stuck somewhere because when I clicked the first next while setting up a new job all the configuration fields are filled in with the job I deleted.  I tried logging out of DP and the host it is on and back on and it still seems to "remember" the configs for that job.  This seems very strange, it should not do that.

Any other ideas?

Thx,

Dave
