Re: pre and post execution scripts on HP Data Protector

when Oracle is shutdown before the backup, you do not need any license to backup the ORADATA files. You have to create two script placed in C:\program files\omniback\bin or /opt/omni/lbin. The scripts must include the commands to stop or start the database.

 

I personally recommend to backup Oracle databases using the online integration (license required) as it gives you more flexibility in case of restores. If not applicable you can use a custom rman script too, to dump the database into filesystem before the backup is done. In this case you do not need to shutdown the database.
