Check the Installation-Guide, there is a small Chapter regarding Migration from PA-Risc to Itanium.

We had to do that switch some time ago with either 5.5 or 6.0, don't remember any trouble there.

/etc/opt/omni and .omnic can be copied over. /var/opt/omni/ should work as well but suggest to take the chance and do an Export/Import to get a compact IDB on the new Host to start from.

If you use a virtual Hostname or the same Hostname (and IP) for the new Machine you don't need to worry about the Clients or the Licenses.

Make sure the Host executing the Script has impersonation set up.

DP Inet running under LocalSystem is very restricted running commands on w2k8 and onwards.

Data Protector 7.0 - Catalog DataBase errors

Good afternoon.


We are having problems with backup jobs as it gives the following error:

[Critical] From: OB2BAR_SAPBACK @ hostname "PRD" Time: 01/24/15 17:01:27
Can not initialize OB2BAR Services (Interprocess communication problem.)
[Critical] From: OB2BAR_SAPBACK @ hostname "PRD" Time: 01/24/15 17:01:29
Can not initialize OB2BAR Services (Interprocess communication problem.)
Can not init OB2BAR "Catalog not loaded, message # 7595 in September 11"
sh: 4242 Memory fault


I purged the catalog as follows:
omnidbutil -purge -filenames -force
omnidbutil -purge_stop

With this I have managed to free space database catalog and no longer have errors in bakups.

My query is:
1. I have added two extensions files of 2GB each but "catalog database / filenames" but "Total Size" size remains 0Mb (The bbdd not write new files on this)
2 .- "catalog database / positions" only has a 3% free. Is it possible to remove obsoletes data in the same way we do with filenames?

Advanced Scheduler DP 9.02

Hello,

 

I have a problem with advanced scheduler integrated in DP 9.X CM is installed in cluster-aware mode. I scheduled with adv. sch. 40-50 backup specs (sql logs) to run hourly. Everything was fine for 3 days, then suddenly all the jobs don't trigger anymore. I rried to create a new job with adv sch for testing, but no success...Any idea?

Thanks for your reply.

 

Do the tapes need to be in a specific order in the Prealloc list?

Or

I can simply add all the tapes to the prealloc list in any order as long as all the tapes we are using are in the Prealloc list.

Tapes in the PreAlloc List are used in sequence.

If none of them is available it falls back to normal Pool allocation.

Even a 600GB mount point takes 6 days to complete on HP DP 7. I cant think of issue

The Error Message indicates a memory fault

Have you verified your hardware for faulty RAM or Disks (Pagefile)?

How does your omnidbutil -extendinfo look like?

Verify where the Bottleneck is.

To check the native Read-Speed of the Disk use something like this: vbda.exe -vol D: -out NUL -profile

To check if the Network between Client and MediaServer is the cause create a Null-Device (DeviceConfig with Target-Path NUL or /dev/null on the MediaServer) and run the backup over that.

If that is also way faster than your normal Job you should check your Target-Device, f.E. with Library and Tape Tools Perf-Test.

Use the proper Program-Path in brackets instead of the ~1-stuff, that relict doesn't work well on Win2012.

LTO6 IBM Drive Support

Bonjour,

 

Do  you know if a Quantum Scalar I6K with FC LTO6 IBM Drive needs spécific driver to be lead by HPDP. ?

 

Problem is : session hang and canceled by DP or very very poor flow (2h30 pour 3,5Gb !!!)

 

From every MA , drives are well detected (online) by devbra et we can move tape from/to slot/drive via UMA

 

 

 

Server is at 703 lvl on RH630

MA are HPUX11iV1, RHV5, WIN2K3/12, DEBIANV5

 

(We have another small scalar I80 but with FC HPLTO6 and the standard driver (sptape, st ) work very well with all

our MA)

no special driver required, the normal IBM TapeDrivers are fine

DATA PROTECTOR 9

Dear All!

 

we installed DP9.0 in December 2014. We did a GUI internal database backup on the 5th of January 2015. Our observation is that after the internal database, all the restore sessions corresponing to the backup sessions before the said backup has disappeared.

 

Kindly advise

DP v9.00 setting for # of media to list/view displayed on GUI

Hi,

 

 

Running DP v9.02 on windows 2008 as Cell Manager.   Is there a way to set the default # of media DP GUI displays on one page? 

 

When I go into media pool the right pane displays (default) up to 50 tapes....you can then drop down and change it to view 100, 200, or 500 items.   I have to do this everytime I open a new GUI.   How can I change this setting to default to lets say 200 items?  Something in the global file?

 

I attached a .jpg to this post to show you what I mean.

After expanding your list, are you clicking on Apply?  This usually will save any settings that you change

 

If this is of no help, you will probably need to ask for an Enhancement request

Data Protection 6.11

Hi, I enherited an old Data protector 6.11 in my workplace but since we already migrated to a different backup software.

 

We still need to keep our old data protector just in case we need to restore the older data. Now the problem is we have security issue with current installed and the security team advised us to patch to updated version. Can I know where can I get the latest patch for HPDP 6.11 or is possible at all to do that?
