HP DP 8.10 LTO4 Media Full but Not protected Object

Hi i have a W2k8 with DP 8.10 an single LTO 4 Attacht.

Media Pool
I have one Media Pool with Tapes Added once per Weekday.
The Media Pool is set to Appendable and Loose. no further configs are made under Allocation

Drive
1 LTO 4

Scheduled Backups
I have 2 Backup Jobs

A Classic Client Server
with Agent (running once a day at 10 PM, exept Sa) the override Protection is set to a Week. The Catalog Protection was to 2 Weeks (ive changed that today to 1 Week analog the normal Protection Time)
Its saving only the File Drives

A Vm Backup 
We do Weekly a vm Snap to Tape for 2 VM's. (Sa at 5 AM) the override Protection is 4 Days. I cant find there any Catalog Protection Time.

The Problem
Last night an this morning both jobs were planned.
Classic Backup was sucessfuly written to (Tape Friday)
VM Backup was startet and written the first VM the Second one havent enoguth Space on the Tape. .... BUT

If i check the Objects under %MediaPool% -> (Tape Friday) -> Objects i notice there are around 150 GB Data Sets with Not Protected and also not Protected at "Catalog Protection".

No i have changed the Catalog Protection on the Classic Backup and Abort the Running Backup.
I restarted alle DP Services.
I Restarted the Failed Job over "Restart Failed Objects"

Its still doing a Media Request caus he cant write to the "full" MediaTape (Friday)

So i dont understand why the Backup wont go to this tape.

 

Anyone a Idea how to fix? 
Yes i know more Space is needed but how to Purge automatically the Expired Data Objects form a Tape, without Recycleing it?

Hi,

My Current Setting ; Wins Server 2008 R2 ; with current setup is DP A.09.05. After migrating from A.06.20. and try to run the DP9.05 can conected. Pop-Up Screen Connect to a Cell -> Click Connect -> another pop-up appear -> A server error has occured. Reported error message. [ Null ] and it keep this cycle pop-up screen.

Gurus ; any suggestion and update might i miss ... Help to asists.

In most of the cases, this error is caused by Data Protector cell security using allow_hosts/deney_hosts files. This prevents DP agent running on the
oracle server (indicated in the report session by host.domain.com) from accessing to himself. This is confirmed by  the following error message logged
in the Inet debug file (created in the same server):

[ 10] [Critical] From: INET@host.domain.com ""  Time: 05/26/2014 10:52:51 AM
[12:1051] Client security violation. Access denied.
                -----------
Solution :
 Add the oracle server (host.domain.com) to the allow_hosts file.

How to reset Admin user password in HP Auto pass

Log Call to Support and advise to re-generate back the certificate ID and it can be login to the A.09.05 screen. Using the command  perl omnigencert.pl

Hi Tobias,

GUI will let you select any folder. So you can create datalist like:

WINFS "C:" cmdp90.dp90.dplab.local:"/C"

"/ProgramData/OmniBack/server"

}

 

But when vbda is running it gets following options:

[ 1] 30. /ProgramData/OmniBack/Config

[ 1] 31. /ProgramData/OmniBack/server

[ 1] 32. -exclude

[ 1] 33. /ProgramData/OmniBack/config/server

[ 1] 34. /ProgramData/OmniBack/server/db80

[ 1] 35. /ProgramData/OmniBack/server/db80/dcbf/dcbf0

[ 1] 36. /ProgramData/OmniBack/server/db80/dcbf/dcbf1

etc.

If you go to restore - restore session and select on of your filesystem sessions including IDB folders can you browse any of them?

I solved the problem, i needed to install the packages fuse-2.8.3-4.el6.x86_64 and fuse-libs-2.8.3-4.el6.x86_64.rpm in my mount proxy

Malware Detected

Hello Everybody,

I tried to download the Data Protector v9.00 this morning and received the following error message from our McAfee Gateway:

Malware Detected

The Transferred file contained a virus and was therefore blocked

Virus Name: Pinc.inc.b

Has anyone had any problems downloading the DP 9.00 file?

Missing virtual Tapes

Hi,

we use Dataprotector 9.00 to backup on a virtual tape librarie (VLS9000) and then move the Backups to Tapes.

Every now and then (no particular backup/client/time/medium/tapedrive) some virtual tapes get lost. Means: at this point they only occour as "not persident" in the media pool but not in the VLS under "slots".

The jobs on the tape were all successful, the tape itself is marked "good".

 

Any idea how this can happen and how i get my backupdata back to the data protector?

Backup of manually snapshotted virtual machines with Data Protector

Is there anything to those rumors?

Hi markovdi,

You're right!

The following folders are missing in the restore selection mask:

D:\ProgramData\OmniBack\db40\dcbf
D:\ProgramData\OmniBack\server\db80

Do you know that you can use fiber support for DDboost in 9.05? Make sure that you have the patch bundle 9.05 and this option will be available to be used with DDBoost.

DP 9.05 Windows 2012R2 - Can Not Delete Libraries - StoreOnce

So, I am having an issue with Data Protector replication between 2 StoreOnce 2900's and am willing to start. Along those line, I am trying to delete one library on each StoreOnce from within DP 9.05, and can not.

When I try from the GUI, what happens is the dbsm memory usages spikes to almost 90% of the system's memory and returns to normal, and does not delete the library. The GUI will hang as well.

I then try the command line -

omniupload -remove_library LibraryName just sits there and the dbsm memory counter goes up and down for a while, and settles in and after about 10 - 20 minutes nothing happens. I have to CTRL-C to get back to the Command prompt.

I then tried to manually edit the library and omnidownload -list_libraries -detail causes the following error to pop-up "Generates an ASCII file with configuration information has stopped working'. I can check online for a solution, or close the program.

omnidownload -library LibraryName -file FileLocation will sit there for about 4 minutyes before returning a "Bad Message Format" error.

omnidbcheck -extended is all OK!

How can I get rid of these 2 libraries?

Have the same issue with the VMware integration and I imagine it's for a BAR integrations. Any additonal enhancement requests to put a "copy" tab into the BAR restores?

Hey Carl,

please try the following. Run omnisv stop to bring down all services. Now check process list for any remaining instances of DBSM and kill them. Run omnisv start and try deletion from command line once again and be patient. Give it 30 minutes and it should be gone (depending on the amount of slots).
