If a user snapshot is present and the Allow fallback to non-CBT backups option is not enabled, Data Protector will fail continuously as the user snapshot cannot be consolidated or deleted
I dont want to have a default pool for my backup especifications. I want the Data Protector to accept the media loaded in the drive, without checking if it is from this or that pool. Its annoying when DP asks for another media just because the current loaded media is from another pool.
If I set in "Destination>Properties>Destination Device>No media pool selected", will i get this behavior? Data protector will accept the media, ignoring it's pool or it will prompt me for a pool every time?
Thanks in Advance!
You can't I'm afraid. Once a tape is full it is full. It will only become available for reuse once the protection on all objects has expired.
I can't just overwrite expired objects, tapes don't work that way.
My suggestion would be to increase the catalog protection so that you have information about what is on the tape until it is actually reused. Other people will disagree but that's my opinion.

Jeremy
We made the mistake of using some cheap DIY labels and now the ink is wearing off the labels and the library can't read the labels.
If we purchase new labels and relabel with the same numbers (i.e. tape ABC123 gets relabeled with a new label ABC123) then will Data Protector recognize it as the same tape?
Or will there be something encoded in the barcode that is unique, requiring a very time consuming import of every tape?
Thanks
That backup will fail with the error "no media pool selected". Every media has to belong to a cell and and a pool within that cell. Maybe you will find this helpful: A ROBO has one new server1 with a built in tape drive. That remote office has gotten 20 brand new tapes for that new server. You have created a backup spec for that server1 with an empty pool1 set to appendable and loose. Now turn on InitOnLoose in the global options media management. The first unformatted new tape goes in the drive and the backup spec runs for the first time. Data Protector will format and name the tape, assign it to the pool1 and run the backup.
Thank you for your explanation. It was very clear and helpful!
Hi Daniel,
Do we have Brick for HP DP 7 also ? any download link?
hi Jeremy,
using same label should work,
Even if you use different labels there is no reason to import, just right click on a drive and select scan it will load all tapes one by one read the header and update IDB.
Hello All,
Is anybody got the solution for this issue. We are also facing the exact same issue.
Multiple database - SQL Online Backups are completing, but its taking a long time (more than a day)....
In the session log, we could notice its waiting nearly 5-7mins between one database completion to start of next database.

Hello!
I am trying to install the new bundle DPWINBDL_00814 in Windows Server 2003 and have some problems:
When I tried to install, I receive this message:
C:\DOCUME~1\BACKUP~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\Patch\x8664\Data Protector A.08.10.msi
[ -2] Windows Installer error 1625: This installation is forbidden by system policy. Contact your system administrator.
I tried to:
- Checked if there is Group policy applied to this server; - Not solved.
- Disabled the antivirus; - Not solved.
- Removed the DP and Install again from zero (without patches); - Not solved.
- Execute the installation with highlevel user;
Do you have any idea about this error?
Thanks

Greetings,
I am trying to set up some exclusions in a UNIX template I'm creating, and I'm having some difficulty matching a certain pattern. The pattern I need to exclude would look something like this:
/oracle/???/folder
Where I'd like to exclude all "folder" directories under any /oracle/??? directory. In TSM this pattern would match any 3 character long directory name (I'm convernting TSM excludes to DP excludes).
I've tried several options already, and nothing seems to work. Is the asterisk "*" the only wildcard character which works in a backup spec template? How might I accomplish this exclude statement in a template?
Sincere thanks,
C.J.
Thank you JBasilio! This procedure needs reboot or restart of service?
Best Regards!
Hello All!
Solved including these registry entries:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\windows\Installer]
"EnableAdminTSRemote"=dword:00000001
"SecureRepairPolicy"=dword:00000002
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\windows\Installer\SecureRepairWhitelist]
"{03153DEA-6206-4EFE-B7E4-4E9474C8BD4F}"=""
** {03153DEA-6206-4EFE-B7E4-4E9474C8BD4F} is the string value of the ProductCode/UpgradeCode** If you have many products installed, you need to put all product codes/ugrade codes
you can get this information in the path C:\windows\temp\MSI(id).LOG
I wish to do IDB maintenance in DP 9.0, Which command to execute or please confirm if it is same as we do in DP 6/7 version.
