Cannot open device (Target drive is busy.) NDMP Celerra and StoreOnce
I've seen other posts with this error but none in an environment like mine; have used those posts as a guide but have not solved this one yet.
I'm using an EMC Celerra filer, HPDP9 on a unix cell, and have created a VTL on a StoreOnce 6500. I can see the VTL tapes on the Celerra ok and I have created a new device in HPDP as SCSI Library / NDMP Celerra. The ndmp client has the ndmp media agent installed, the ndmp server is the Celerra. Robotic control is through the ndmp server and uses the device address of the robot as seen on the Celerra. The media type is LTO-Ultrium and the VTL is configured with UltriumVT emulation. A single drive has been created for testing.
I can scan barcodes sucessfully. If I try to scan a tape in a slot or scan the drive, then after some minutes I get the error:

From the StoreOnce gui I can see the tape being moved into the drive successfully, then moved back to the slot after the error appears in HPDP. Based on whats working, this doesn't seem to be a a zoning issue. I don't think it's an HPDP media issue, although the integration guide mentions using an NDMP media pool, but nowhere in creating a media pool can I see where I can specify NDMP, so I'm specifying Ultrium to match the VTL. One post mentioned using a device lock, which I am, so I don't think that's the issue.
I'd appreciate any guidance on this one. Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Having an "NDMP pool" indeed only means you cannot mix both tape formats. NDMP or regular DP format should not be used within the same pool. That to avoid that it would arrive into the wrong (logical) device.
You say you have only one device configured for testing. You're also saying you see the tape being loaded and unloaded. Question: are there more drives in the VTL and if so then are the other drives empty during this test? I'm asking as I'm suspecting your drive index may be configured incorrectly and you may be accessing another drive (not the one you just loaded the tape into). If the other drives are not empty during the test then I would recommend to redo the same test after making sure all drives in the VTL are empty. If that is resulting in another error (stating that no tape was loaded) then you know the index is incorrect. If this is NOT resulting in a different message then I would recommend to generate debugs + Celerra logs and provide that to support.

Solaris StoreOnce Catalyst support

so in the release notes of the new patch (9.06) is StoreOnce Catalyst support listed (again, in 9.05 and 9.04 it was also listed).
Describtion:
Change Request: QCCR2A62134: Symptom: This is an enhancement request to introduce support for Solaris and AIX StoreOnce Catalyst, including Federated Catalyst and Catalyst over Fibre Channel. Resolution: Data Protector introduces support for Catalyst including Federated Catalyst and Catalyst over Fiber Channel on Solaris (64bit, version 10 and 11 on SPARC CPUs ) and AIX (7.1) platforms.
But as before it just dont work. We have a Solaris 10 and 11 Sparc System but both cannot be configured as a FC gateway. It says:
"Store Once error: StoreOnce device offline, network error occurred or secure communication failed while contaction the StoreOnce device."
But the servers can see the StoreOnce over FC, we checked that.
Anything we missing?
Cell server and the solaris 10/11 sparc server are 9.06

Installing Linux DA RHEL 7
Hi,
I've installed Data protector on my RHEL 7 box, and port 5555 tells it is set to Listen, but I'm not able to telnet from the CM to this machine. I'm assuming this is my issue why I can't import this client to the CM. Any thoughts on what might cause this, Firewalls are all disabled.

[Workaround / Fix]
This function has been added at Data Protector 8.14 .
If it is not preferred to resolve hostname of Guest OS at backup host ,
it can be disabled by setting omnirc variable OB2_VEAGENT_DISABLE_DNS_RESOLVE=1 on backup host
and it will solve the issue .

DP 9 - Email(SMTP) Notification
Hi all, I have configure the SMTP information in the Global files as well as the notification email receiver for EndOfSession in the Data Protector. However, the notification does not sent.
I tried to telnet and send email via telnet by using the SMTP information and it was a success. I wonder why DP email notification does not work.
Where can i check the related logs? Do you guys got any suggestion?

For the last week we constantly gettig the following isues on different vm backups.

Hey David
Within the Data Protector Backup Specification, under the Source Tab, Right Click on the Server that has the K: Drive and click Copy
You will now have two Server1.Domain.Com selected as the backup Source
Under each server, try to evenly split the folders that make up the K: Drive (So one Source Server has Half, and the 2nd Source Server has the other half of the folders that make up the 8TB)

Data Protector backing up Veeam catalyst stores
I am looking at a solution where Veeam 9 writes to a catalyst store at siteA on a storeonce 4700. This data is then replicated to another storeonce 4700 at siteB.
I want to use DP to backup the replicated Veeam store to tape however I'm not sure if it will just do a full every time....
how will the agent know what files it needs to backup (incr) within the store whereas a NAS fileshare its different. I only want to put to tape new data, not the same TBs every day....
anyone know??
