Hello,

Firstly I would suggest you to upgrade to DP 9.06.

Then can you give us more information.

Is you backup host (the one with the VEAgent) is also the vCenter server ?

What is your vCenter version ?

Can you upgrade to 9.06 first to see whether or not the issue is solved ?

If not, you'll need to generate the debugs and open a case to know what is going wrong.

EADR Windows Server 2012R2 and HP DP 9.06

Hello!

I have DP 9.06 (Cellmanager) installed on Windows Server 2012R2 (was an upgrade from Server 2008R2).

I have Severs Windows Server 2008R2 and Windows Server2012Rs I want to backup with EADR.

WAIK for Windows 7 is installed on CellManger.

Now I want to install Assessment and Deployment Kit (ADK 1.1) for Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2. But what Features I need for EADR?

  • Application Compatibility Toolkit (ACT)
  • Deployment Tools
  • Windows PE
  • User State Migration Tool (USMT)
  • Volume Activation management Tool (VAMT)
  • Windows Performance Toolkit
  • Windows Assessment Services
  • microsoft SQL Server 2012 Express

 

Can anyone tell me what I have to install?

Hello,

You need Windows PE (and the Deployment tool is a prerequisite or vice versa)

Hello,

Kindly note that we upgraded the HP DP to 9.05 still with same error.

And regarding the backup host, yes it is the vcenter server also.

vcenter version is 6.0.

Restore issue to vcenter 6.0U1

Restore issue to vcenter 6.0U1

The backups of the vm's in vcenter 6.0U1 are running perfect.
I only have issues with the restore of a vm.
When the restore is done I see the vm in the inventory grayed out (invalid)
and see the following error in the restore log

(DP) Support Tip: Minimizing the Size of Data Protector Debugs

Sometimes collecting Data Protector debugs can be challenging because of the disk space required where the debugs are written to.  There are several strategies that can assist with managing this:

1) The debugs can be redirected to an alternate volume/directory by setting OB2DBGDIR=<desired destination path> in the omnirc file.

2) The debug range can be adjusted to collect only the debug range required to analyze the problem. Example:

     OB2DBG=199-231 debugs.txt

   Note that using this method requires highly advanced knowledge of what ranges report what information.

3) Debugs can be enabled only for the Data Protector Processes that are being examined. Example: 

     OB2DBG=1-331,333-500 debugs.txt BMA 

   This option will only generate debugs for the BMA (Backup Media Agent Process). 

4) Debugs can be compressed on the fly by specifying the following syntax:

     OB2DBG=1-331,333-500,gz debugs.txt 

   Note the "gz" appendage onto the debug range. This will produce a debug file that is created in gzip format.

All of the above strategies can be combined to further tune and minimize the size of the DP debugs. These are considered advanced topics for debugging. I strongly recommend that if you are interested in using these features that you speak with Data Protector Support Consultant for assistance.

Hello,

As we understand that the work arround solution is to separate the Vcenter from the HP DP host.

And as other solution to copy those files to backup directory.

It is right ?

So if we decide to go through the second scenario, what is the disadvantages for copying those DLL files to backup directory ?

Hello,

Yes you have understood the two options.

For the second scenerio, you should document it because it may be helpful in case you need to reinstall DP and the folder is removed.

I've done it several time at small customer's site with no seen issues.

 

AIX extremely slow backups over LAN

HP DP Cell manager is 9.06 is running on Windows 2012. 

AIX 6.1.0.4 on P520 Server

HP DP 8.1 or 9.0, Client and Media agents installed (8.0 on one server) updated to 9.0.

  1. Regardless of network configuration (different subnets) or the changes applied to the network stack on the AIX server ( kernel tunning made minimal impact on this).
  2. Backing up text files and some small binary file
  3. The link speed between the Cell Manager and the client is 1Gbe.
  4. Transfer rate is super slow - around 22.22MBps!! Regardless of what is done.

Has anyone encountered this?

I just want to inform you that the recommended fix was sent by support and solve the issue, now the backup jobs using tape drive level encryption is working as it should, case closed.

Are you using any omnirc parameters on the AIX client or media agent?

After installation of DP 9.06 patch we have a problem.
Some copy sessions are failing with error message: [64:121] No suitable device found to complete the operation.

We found article with the same problem and fix for the DP 9.05 https://softwaresupport.hpe.com/km/KM02246647?lang=en&cc=us&hpappid=202392_SSO_PRO_HPE.
"It happens when we have objects from > 1 source gateways." We check this - correct. If we run copy session from one gateway, then all fine. If more, than fail.
Fix: use csm.exe from DP0905_B106_QCCR2A67152_HF2. But there is no link to download patched csm.exe. Also we can't ask the link or file from HP support.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem or where we can download correct csm file for DP 9.06 ?

Sometimes Data Protector cannot enable CBT for a certain Virtual Machine. 

Then we will probably see an error message like this in the session log:

Virtual Machine 'test': Could not enable changed block tracking ...

This could be caused by this Virtual Machine having existing user snapshots which prevent CBT from being enabled.

If there are no snapshots, or the issue persists after deleting them. We can try to manually enable CBT by following this VMware KB:

If CBT cannot be enabled by following the above KB, then we should contact VMware support for help.

Hey Robert,

this was a known issue on earlier Data Protector A.09.00 versions. What patch bundle are you running? R-Sessions are operations such as loading a media using UMA.

Sometimes it may occur that copy sessions complain about the number of devices available.

 Minimum number of devices is 1, required 2.

Here an example where the administrator thought all backups selected for copy had used only one device.


Please keep in mind:
Integration backups use dependant streams during backup which requires the same number of devices during
object copy (as where used during backup).

The assumption here is that some of this sessions used more than 1 device.
In cases like above, it is always a good idea to verify all the sessions filtered by copy session for number of devices used.
