Upgrade of DP from 8.1 to 9.06

I'm reading the installation guide, and in teh upgrade section i've dound the following step after the upgrade.

You must manually adjust the library capacity (VTLCAPACITY) of a virtual tape library, which was created with a previous version of Data Protector, and is after the upgrade by default set to 1 TB. See"Checking configuration changes" below

This cell manager does have VTL's and HP Storeonce once, but i can't seem to the find the setting in the global options anywhere. Does anyone know where i find this settings. And does it only apply for VTL's or StoreOnce as well.

VTL tape pool reassignment.

Good Morning, I had a system crash Saturday, that was a media server for my D2D. It is an HPUX 11.31 server. I have another HPUX 11.31 server that is also on the same D2D as a media server. Is there a way to access the Pool/Tape that was assigned to the down server from the operational server? I tried just moving it to a pool that was accessible, but that did not work, I thought about changing the media/robotics, but I did not want to damage my config. or lose my media.

It seems like your IDB crashed when trying to export the database.

Can you try omnidbutil -writedb -cdb <path> and omnidbutil -writedb -mmdb <path> to see if that works?

There is a rds.exe fix for this similar issue in HPE Support - I'm not sure whether it's applicable to you.

It's not in the global options.  It's in Device and Media.

When a VTL is first configured, at the first screen there is an option at the bottom to use Capacity-based licensing (Advanced Backup to Disk license).  That portion is what the release note is referring to.

Hi,

you need to open support case to get a fix. Alternatively you can use workaround for problematic jobs replacing devices eg: 

If you have object in filter from devices A,B and C you can use Change Device option in Source tab to replace B and C devices with A. With this configuration job will run normally.

It's the capacity configurable in this screen:

Hi Tommy,

what kind of device is configured on the D2D? If it's a VTL you can configure it as multipath device (option selected in general settings tab for device) and add paths from your new media server in DP device configuration for robotic (control tab) and each drive separately (in drive properties -> drive settings tab)

No, I have looked at the omnirc.TMPL file for options which would pertain to throughput but none seem to address this.
Similarly, HP's support did not indicate that any additional parameters need to be set which appears very bizarre. 
The installation document does not mention any parameters. What would be the core omnirc parameters to increase throughput? It takes well over 1hr for 10GB to transfer on a 1Gps LAN.

DP9.06 Oracle integratio​n reports failures permanentl​y

Hi, collegues

 

I have following problem: Cell server is Windows VM, client is HW Linux 6 with Oracle 12.1.0. Recenetly I set up specifications, but now I have problems when I try to edit them. For example, when I try to check them - DP shows error "Integration check failed", another trial is successful, then again failied and so on. I installed Wireshark on CM and  when spec check is successfull I see network communication between CM and client. When it is not successul - I just see SYN packets from CM towards client and client do no respond. telnet to client on 5555 is successful, DNS seems ok. It look like that client daemon in some times is started and in other times it can not start. Backups are running correctly.

I am trying to use omnir on my Linux DP cell manager to restore a file system.  The current action keeps returning me with help page for omnir

hi,

assuming that question marks are hidden characters and object label is VGOO you need to specify tree option and use -target if you want to restore to different client, please try it like this: 

/opt/omni/bin/omnir  - filesystem ?????.dcpds.cpms.osd.??:/srv VG00 -session 2016/05/15-5 -tree / -target ?????.dcpds.cpms.??? -as /name

Sorry for delay in getting back to you all the lpars had been shutdown for a week 

the link that I had set was 

libobk.a -> /usr/omni/lib/libob2oracle8_64bit.a 

I will create a link replacing libobk.a with libobk.so and let you know the outcome

Hello,

I'm trying to add our vCenter server VCSA in order to do the vmware integrated backups, however when I try to import it using either the hostname or IP I get the following error messsage:

Bad message format 12:1009

 

Any idea's what I'm doing wrong?  We are running DP 9.04 and the VCSA is version 6.0 running SLES.

Hello team,

My Cell Manager is on DP9.05, in the GUI Console, when I try to browse Hyper-V VM images, nothing is displayed, thus unable to select any VM for backup. The Hyper-V version is Windows 2012 R2.

Did I miss out anything, appreciate some comments on this.

omniiso with DP 9.06 and Server 2012R2

Hello!

 

I have a Windows Server 2012R2 and want to create a DR of my Cell-Manager. I have done it like in post of data-protector.org

All fine, but on creating the iso-file I get following error:

Error updating SRD file objects [error: -7]. Aborting.

What does this error means?.

We are running DataProtector A.09.06 Internal build 107

When we start a backup with let's say 200 backup-objects the GUI builds-up in the following sequence:

-In the Top-section of the screen you see the objects

        -Completed

        -Running

        -Waiting

-In the middle section of the screen you see the backup devices ( 2 drives in this case)

-In the bottom section you see the scrolling events....

This is how it used to be....

at present , the following happens....

-The bottom-section shows that the backup is starting.....

- The middle-section shows the backup devices

- The top-section after a while (sometimes takes 2 minutes) shows the objects ... BUT only

       -Running

       -Completed

I don't see the waiting objects anymore. Concurrency is set to 16 per drive , so I should see 32 running objects, several completed and the rest should be waiting.....

Anyone recognizes this behaviour ?

markovdi, thank you for your help!
We tried to do as you said - go to copy specification options > source > select device with GW2 > change > select device with GW1.
But the copy session fails with the mount request for medium from the GW2.

At the begning of the copy session we saw warning:
The library "<name_of_GW1>" does not contain the media set to perform the requested operation.

And after some time:
Mount request for medium:
MediumId : meduim_id_from_GW2
Label : label_of_media_pool_from_GW2
Location :
Device : name_of_GW1
Host : name_of_GW1_host
Slot : some numbers of slot in GW1.

We thought that this setting will tell GW1 to read data from GW2 and write it through GW1, but looks like it works in another way. 

Now it seems that the only way is to switch all specs to GW1.

run omniiso in debug mode and check debug file or post here....

do you have a good full backup of all volumes before you run omniiso? what command and options did you use? Do you have the necessary ADK kit installed as well ?
