Thank you markovdi,

I did not think about that. i am having a little difficulty setting it up, but It does appear that it should take care of what I need to do.

Thanks again for the direction.

Unable to do archive log backup with Data Protector (DB2)

Hi

Am using DP v9.00 in windows 2012 R2 environment with a DB2 database v10.5.

Currently we are trying to do a backup of db2 archive logs to a autoloader via Data Protector.

What we have done is to configure following in DB2 Database:

"db2 update db cfg for <databasename> using logarchmeth1 vendor:c:\Progra~1\OmniBack\lib\libob2db2.dll"

This is dll is from DATA Protector.

After this configuration, we observe we are not able to connect to our Database

"C:\Windows\system32>db2 connect to <databasename>
SQL2072N Unable to bind the shared library
"c:\Progra~1\OmniBack\lib\libob2db2.dll". Reason code: "-2029060040"."

Understand this is not a DB2 forum, , but like to seek advice if this is right way to configure archive log backup via Data Protector and any way to settle the connection error encountered?.

Thanks

Al

Hello,

MS SQL 2000 was supported in Data Protector v. 7.x but not for Data Protector v. 8.x/9.x

If you run MS SQL 2000 backup integrated on unsupported environment you can get the following error :

Orphaned Object - Not present in database

Hello Guru's

We are currently running V7.01 of DP (looking to upgrade soon to V9) but i'm seeing errors on our HyperV backups.

They are in a cluster ( with 2 x physical nodes), when i select "All" in the show tab, most of them are now orphaned. The HyperV cluster admin has said that some of them have moved from one node to the other (from server 1 to server2 in the same cluster).

When i created the backup spec i selected the "backup host" as the cluster name (cluster1) & the "client" also as the cluster name. Because not all the vms are required for backups i have "cherry picked" the required servers for backup.

Should DP know that the servers have moved to another node in the cluster and still back them up? I thought it did? At the moment the backup session just says "Completed with errors" & "cannot find the following Virtual machines".

Thanks for any help.

Re: Patch 9.02: VMware GRE Support gone ?????

I too am having the same issue when trying to add the VMware GRE agent to my vcenter server.  We have a VCSA, and when I right click on it in the DP gui, the Add components option is greyed out.  However, if I select a Windows bases serverI see the option for VMware Granular Recover Extension Agent and VMware Granular Recover Extension Agent Web plugin.  When I try to install it on the Windows server, it of course gives an error because vcenter server isn't running on there.  How do I get this installed when we are using a VCSA, do I have to set up a windows based vcenter server an ditch our appliance now in order to be able to do file level recoveries of a vm?

Our setup is:

Linux VM (Centos 6.7) cell manager running DP 9.04

vcenter server - Virtual Center Server Appliance version 6.0U1 (Suse)

I am using HP data protectore 9.0 and want to backup the ESX VMs. I got stuck while adding vCenter into the client list of HPDP.

Even after giving right credentials of vCenter it says " Invalid username or bad password has been specified (Vsphere.com\administrator@vsphere.local). "

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

HP Data Protector 9.05 With Thick Provision Eager Zeroed disks

Hello,

We have Vmware Vcenter 6.0 integrated with HP DP 9.05 as, we configured full backup jobs for VMs with Thick Provision Eager Zeroed disks.

The backup take the whole disks size as backup not the used space. (Ex: SCSI disk with total size 100GB, used space 20GB, the HP DP take as backup the 100GB)

How can full backup VMs and take only the used space with this type of disks ?

Please advise,

Could you please try "Import Client" and select Vcenter Server and give the IP of Vcenter server. Using this you can take Vmware backups

Hi,

Data Protector uses changed block tracking and that's how it works. You can get details in http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-60/index.jsptopic=%2Fcom.vmware.vddk.pg.doc%2FvddkBkupVadp.9.3.html&resultof=%22changed%22%20%22chang%22%20%22block%22%20

Provide the special ChangeId"*" (star). The star indicates that QueryChangedDiskAreas should return only active portions of the virtual disk. For both thin provisioned (sparse) virtual disks and for ordinary virtual disks, this causes a substantial reduction in the amount of data to save.

If the guest actually wrote to each block of a virtual disk (long format or secure erase), or if the virtual disk is thick and eager zeroed, or cloned thick disk, then the "*" query reports the entire disk as being in use
