omniobjcopy ( I want to copy a session to another tape)

Hello,

That´s my situation:

I have a backup of my IDB from 28-04-2016 (session ID is : 2016/04/28-2441) but unfortunatelly I did it to the wrong POOL. (ist should belong to MONTHLY pool but I forgot to change the pool after copying the job). So now this Monthly backup is in my Daily Pool but with a retention of 2 years.

So I tried to do a "copy session" with the GUI..... Unfortunatelly the GUI only shows the last 64000 sessions... I have about 950.000 so I do not "see" the session von 28.04.2016 any more.

So I thought I would use the CLI to do this:

omniobjcopy -session 2016/04/28-2441 -targetdevice 'Drive03_aii_lansan01' -pool LIB_MONTHLY

is what I tried but HPDP tells me :

[Critical] From: CSM@aii-dp "Interactive" Time: 05.07.2016 15:48:03
[61:4008] Logical device "Drive03_aii_lansan01" not found in the database.

See attachment of my Drives ...

Re: Procedure to change new ip address in Cell Managers by ISP migration

Hi,

If you change the IP address of the CM you have to change licenses.

changes your licenses here or contact your partener support.
https://h20576.www2.hpe.com/mysoftware/index

once with the new licenses only the install and you change the IP and that's it, no need to change anything else.

Hi dpx,

please stick to the installation instructions (file named install) inside the patch bundle. You could also use 9.07 patch bundle which is available since today. Make sure to upgrade the Cell Manager remotely using "Upgrade" from GUI afterwards.

Migrating from dp7 to dp9 on a new server

So I'm looking to migrate from windows 2k8 to another vm windows 2012.

Currently running version dp7 but at the same time I want to upgrade to dp9.

So to start I've made a backup of the internal database to a file library I created on the new server. I then uninstalled dp as a client on the old cell, and then reinstalled dp7 on the new server as a cell manger and imported the file library using omnidownload and omniupload. And on the new cell I did a restore of the idb. Then omnisv stop and start. I can now see the old clients but none of the sessions in the internal database show. I thought restoring the database on the new server would add the sessions.

Any advice greatly appreciated

Hello Sebastian,

Sorry to be slow to respond. I tried to use BRICK to get the info you mentioned, but was not successful. I am currently working with HP to investigate the cause of the disparity. I have appreciated your assistance and comments .

Hi,

I try the following:
Install DP 7 With same level patch on new server.
1-write IDB on old CM
2-read IDB on new server. (Copy DCBF and msg folder on new server)

If works, just update to DP 9.

Hi,

Did anyone configure HP storeOnce 6500 over FC in Data protector 9.00. I have zoned node1,node2 {Service set 1,2} with backup host - Redhat 6.8 physical server {MA -installed} and tried to add device in Data protector GUI but couldn't find the device.

I've checked status on Storeonce - all FC ports are online and backup host has logged in.

I can see all devices in linux after zoning but couldn't find any device in Data protector Gui. if anyone face such situation. Please share your thoughts.

Many Thanks,

DPx

With your read and write command, do you mean do that instead of trying the restoring process. Or would reading and writing put all sessions,  backup specs, devices etc back in to DP like normal. If so I'll give it a go today and see how that works.

When running the read, does the cell manager need to be do nothing, or can it do that while running normally?

Hi PDS_Support,

I would use omnirpt for this.

omnirpt -report host_statistics -timeframe 168 168 -datalist DATALIST

Your command is correct while the quotes might cause trouble. I did a simple interactive object copy with this command and it works (on A.09.07).

omniobjcopy -session SessionID -targetdevice B2D_FS_gw1 -pool B2D_FS

Dataprotector Licensing discount for a LAB

Hi, does someone knows if HP offers some kind of discount for dataprotector for lab enviroment?

We already have DP in our production enviroment and would like to have DP in our lab so we can troubleshoot issues and do test before production deployment, so as other companies do offer this kind of benefits, I wonder if HPE its one of those companies.

Hi,

In my opinion DP 7 is better to do a write / read. That should leave you all well in your IDB.
As long as you know to apply the procedure.

When you run the DP write all the stops, as in the read, so you have to take a time window to perform the procedures especially in the old.

I hope everything it's ok.

Hi Grimaldy,

are you a HPE Software partner or a customer? If you don't mind to re-build your lab environment every 60 days you might use the instant-on license that is included with the software. Depending on your requirements you could export device configuration files and create file copies of the relevant backup specs in advance.

Re: Procedure to change new ip address in Cell Managers by ISP migration

It would be best if you could maintain the original FQDN of the Cell Manager. Just update the DNS entry. Remove lic.dat and apply the rehosted licenses. When the IP is correctly assigned to the host and the services restarted you should be fine.
