Re: Advanced GRE plugin Vcenter 5.5.0 U2 Data Protector 9.02

When i tried today to check the integration, i had a surprise: doing absolutely nothing the tab appeared in the VM page. Maybe was something with the browser cache, idk what to say. Didn't have enough time to see everything it's working as expected, but i was able to browse and see the vmdk's backups. I didn't disabled the firewall yet.  If i don't want to disable the firewall I need to enable inbound ports 15000-15999 and 7116, right?

One more question, i selected a disk to restore, but te following fields are greyed out and i cannot edit them: ESX host, Mount proxy host (is automatically selected as cell manager - which is correct) and Restore path and of course i need to set a Restore path.

Thank you for your help.

Wonderful that this has been resolved. I usually create a new configuration file for the firewall named /etc/vmware/appliance/firewall/omni.

{
  "firewall": {
    "enable": true,
    "rules": [
      {
        "direction": "inbound",
        "name": "omni",
        "port": "5555",
        "porttype": "dst",
        "protocol": "tcp"
      },
      {
        "direction": "inbound",
        "name": "AppServer",
        "port": "7116",
        "porttype": "dst",
        "protocol": "tcp"
      },
      {
        "direction": "inbound",
        "name": "GRE",
        "port": "15000:15999",
        "porttype": "dst",
        "protocol": "tcp"
      }
    ]
  }
}

The available mount proxies, ESXi hosts are fetched from Cell Managers cell_info file. Make sure you have the required systems imported. For example you can just import more ESXi hosts from the Clients context. Just select the correct type in the dropdown. The destination directories on mount proxies can be configured in the plugin in GRE Settings.

Please mark this topic as resolved if this works as expected.

Hi Alex,

you could either attach the log to the topic or upload it somewhere and share the link with me privately. It would be best to stop vSphere Web client, remove the log, start vSphere Web client and reproduce the issue. Look for vsphere_client_virgo.log.

  • Windows: C:\ProgramData\VMware\vSphere Web Client\serviceability\
  • Linux: /var/log/vmware/vsphere-client

Hi efrain5,

the Data Protector OpenVMS client (PSCI file located on the Windows media kit, OPENVMS folder) must be installed locally. When this is done the client can be directly imported to the cell. From the TCPIP SHOW SERVICES output it can see the installation was already done and the services are up and running.

Please use the Data Protector GUI, Clients context => Import Client or the command omnicc -import_host Lxxxxxx from the Cell Manager to add the OpenVMS client to the cell. Modifications of the components can only be done using PRODUCT command.

Sebastian Koehler

If you are able to connect with the remote CLI client, your cert or exception should already be in your .hp3par folder.

Are you logged onto Administrator as in : C:\Users\Administrator\.hp3par

>This is usually stored in %USERPROFILE%\.hp3par.

FYI: In the future, this will be changed to ".hpe3par"

Hi,

Yes I can See a file "excp" in the folder C:\Users\Administrator\.hp3par but still get the same error while installing HPE 3PAR VSS.

Please add C:\Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\HP 3PAR CLI\bin to the PATH variable and try again. You will most like need to logout and login again.

Are you able to telnet LFPROD 5555 from Cell Manager and telnet CellManager 5555 from the client LFPROD? If not a firewall might block the communication or the system or name resolution does not work. It is important that the Cell Manager can resolve the client name AND the client can resolve the Cell Manager name properly via DNS or host file to allow the import.

Please follow the installation guide:

Installing HP OpenVMS clients
The installation procedure for OpenVMS clients has to be performed locally on a supported OpenVMS system. Remote installation is not supported.
You can install the Data Protector Disk Agent, General Media Agent, and the User Interface (command-line interface only) on systems running OpenVMS 7.3-2/IA64 8.2-1. You can also install the Oracle Integration component on systems running OpenVMS 7.3-2 or later. For information on Data Protector components, see
"Data Protector components" on page 57
.
For information on supported devices, OpenVMS platform versions, as well as for limitations, known problems and workarounds, see the HPE Data Protector Product Announcements, Software Notes, and References.
For more OpenVMS specific information, see the
OpenVMS Release Notes
located in the default help document directory on OpenVMS, for example:
SYS$COMMON:[SYSHLP]DPA0800.RELEASE_NOTES
.
Prerequisites
Before you install a Data Protector client on the OpenVMS platform, check the following:
l
Make sure the HPE TCP/IP transport protocol is installed and running.
l
Set the TIMEZONE features of your system by executing the command
SYS$MANAGER:UTC$TIME_SETUP.COM
.
l
Log in to the
SYSTEM
account of the OpenVMS system. Note that you must have appropriate permissions.
l
Make sure that you have access to the Data Protector installation DVD-ROM or ISO image containing the HP OpenVMS client installation package.
l
Reverse DNS lookup for host name resolution is required for all Data Protector components in the Data Protector cell.
Installation Procedure
The installation procedure can be performed from the Data Protector Windows installation DVD-ROM or ISO image.
To install a Data Protector client on an OpenVMS system
1.
If you already have the PCSI installation file go to
"Installing Data Protector clients" on page 54
. To get the PCSI installation file, mount the installation DVD-ROM or ISO image on an OpenVMS Server and copy it to the desired location. You may also ftp the PCSI file from a Windows system.
2.
Run the following command:
$ PRODUCT INSTALL DP /SOURCE=
device
:[
directory
]
where
device
:[
directory
]
is the location of the .PCSI installation file.

3.
Verify the version of the kit by responding
YES
to the prompt:
The following product has been selected: HPE AXPVMS DP A08.00-xx Layered Product Do you want to continue? [YES]
4.
Choose the software components you wish to install. Take the defaults and the Disk Agent, General Media Agent, and User Interface will be installed. You may also select each component individually.
You will be asked to choose options, if any, for each selected product and for any product that may be installed to satisfy software dependency requirements.

FD backup files are generated for every minute

Hi,

FD backup files are generated for every 4 minutes without any schedule. Request quick support.

Re: FD backup files are generated for every minute

Do you mean file library depots with FD files? If this is the case there might be a MSM or BMA processing hanging on the Media Server causing this. Is there enough free space available on disk?

Sebastian Koehler

Hi,

I mean there are multiple backup files generated to the disk not aware which is causing the issue, this is generating almost 170 backup files where we have scheduled backups only for 5 devices.

Re: FD backup files are generated for every minute

Please confirm if this is a File Library or not. Depending of the File Library configuration there will be a file depot per used wrtier until the depot is full (the limit is defined in the File Library configuration, default 5 GB which might be adjusted).

Sebastian Koehler

hi ,

     I have tried checking the connection and wheather the data protector software is installed in our MIP server or not, but i cannot find any usefull steps to check it in our server. So can you kindly provide some steps to check wheather the connection exists between the data protector and the client systen and also kindly provide some steps to reinstall the data protector software in our client system.

If a backup session is running to that device, this works as expected. I usually recommend using a larger depot size to reduce fragmentation on disk and the overhead to the Data Protector media management to a minimum.
