Hi,

 

This is related to the following global parameter:

 

# SmDeviceErrorThreshold=MaxNumberOfUnknownErrors

# default: 5
# SmDeviceErrorThreshold >0  is  used  by  session  managers  to
# define the  upper limit  of unknown device errors.  The device
# will be disabled when number of unknown device errors  reaches
# specified value. All other values will disable functionality.

 

You would need to investigate which errors have been seen while the device was used. Check session reports and debug.log. The value is kept in the device config. When you run omnidownload on this device, you will probably find:

ERROR_COUNT 5

When you delete this line and run omniupload again, the device will show up normal again. But first you want to understand what the problem was that has triggered this.

Reports with Dataprotector 9.08

Hello guys, 

I have a question in terms of the reports from HPE DataProtector.

Under Reporting / Reports I created a group with 8 reports in it. Now every time when the report is generated, I recieve 8 Mails. 

Thats a little bit annoying and fills my mailbox up.

 

Is there a way to generate a report which send only one mail with the reports in the attachment or something like that?

There must be a way to restore the IDB from an LTO Tape to a new server....

Wrong file format omni/lib/nls/C/omni.cat

I have a data protector manager which is Windows. Many linux machines are added as clients to the DPM. I am trying an upgrade to version A.09.08. But from DPM, when I try, I get errors:

IDB Backup failure post upgrading to 9.0.8

We have Cell Manager 7.0 running on Windows 2008. Yesterday upgraded to 9.0.8

And then IDB backup has encounter below error message.

[Critical] From: OB2BAR_POSTGRES_BAR@host.companyname.com "DPIDB"  Time: 11/20/2016 4:47:54 PM
    Error while running the PSQL script

I had tried below solutions but didn't work out.

Added Domain user under "replace process level token" in Local Security Policy.

Run Inet Service with local system but still issue persists. Can someone help on this.

ORACLE Backup failed post upgradating

Oracle Archive and DB Backup failed post upgrading Cell Manager to 9.0.8 from 7.0 leaving oracle clients(runs on HP-UX) runs on 7.0 with below error message:

 

RMAN-03009: failure of backup command on dev_3 channel at 11/20/2016 00:39:39

ORA-19513: failed to identify sequential file

ORA-27206: requested file not found in media management catalog

RMAN-12019: continuing other job steps, job failed will not be re-run

[Normal] From: OB2BAR_SBT_CHANNEL@servername.domain.com "PTL91PR"  Time: 11/20/2016 12:46:07 AM

 

Is anyone encounter this problem ever and help to fix it.

(DP) Support Tip: Power On and Live Migrate features failing after ESXi update

Power On and Live Migrate features are failing after change block tracking changes introduced with ESXi 6.0 Express Patch 6 (build 3825889). After this updateVM snapshot cannot be created without vmname-ctk.vmdk files, which DP performs in both operations. In session reports following might be seen: 

[Major] From: RSM@cellmanager ""  Time: 8/24/2016 11:06:09 PM
[62:1021]     Bar restore session was started but no client connected
    in 600 seconds.
    Aborting session!

And from corresponding debugs: 

[ 20] [WaitForTask] Didn't receive 'success'. Received: An error occurred while taking a snapshot: Could not open or create change tracking file.

HPE is working with VMware to identify more details about that change in behavior and future Data Protector patch release.

what version of Oracle?

Also in the backup source in the GUI, do a check configuration. Does this come back successful ?

Hi Koen,

 

What is the default or the "normal" log level from the StoreOnceSoftware service?

And I have see that  the patch bundle 7.03 for hp data protector is avaible. But I found any download like that is work. Can you give me a patch bundle softwarepakckage?

I have seen others have occassional issues with these software stores. It is possible at some stage that your stores could corrupt so its always good to make sure you have copies off to tape.

As you are on DP7 I would also look to upgrade which could help too.

Try running the INET service under the Domain User account that you added into the "replace process level token" local sec policy. Typically I have used a dedicated Domain service account for this.

Location:

Win

ProgramData\OmniBack\log

Unix/Linux

/var/opt/omni/log

and

/var/opt/omni/server/log

 

The Key Log files commonly needed by support are:

Debug.log,  This is a general log file reporting various warnings and errors throughout the Cell, it is found on Clients as well as the Cell Manager.

hpdp-idb-cp.log,  Logs activities pertaining to the Connection Pool service.

Inet.log, Logs INET connection issues, related to network communication.

IS_install.log, Logs events pertaining to the Installation Server activities, push installs ect.

Subdirectory log\AppServer\

All logs pertaining to the Application Server activity, here you'll find the information useful to troubleshoot any issues with the AS server not starting etc.

Subdirectory log\Server\ on Unix/Linux /var/opt/omni/server/log

The results of the daily checks are logged here.

check_bf.log (dcbf health and consistancy)

check_keystore.log (keystore consistancy check)

HealthCheck.log Daily Health check operations and results

lic.log licencing events and warnings

Media.log All sessions run in the Cell Manager and the associated media used. IDB backups are marked as "OmniDB" 

Ob2Event.log, General Notices pertaing to the Cell Manager itself rather than Cell wide reporting. Here you can see the report on the total number of older version DCBF's (db40) as they are reduced over time due to expiration.  

Omnisv.log  Omnisv - Services stopping and starting

Security.log Permissions and overall security events 

SM.log Session Managers activity log

 

This data proves very useful to support and it is recommended to secure and provide these logs to support

on issues which need further investigation.

Please note that due to a known DP bug, inet.log is also written on /tmp on Linux server. So please  look at both /tmp and /var/opt/omni/log for inet.log.

there arent any commands or options on the storeoncesoftware command to perform integrity checks of the stores. As Koen said, enabling logging will help to determine if there are issues....

Since most of the Advanced Scheduler issues have been fixed in A.09.06 and later defect QCCR2A70785 (from the link) might help.

Upgrade from 6.0X to 9.0X, It is compatible?

We planned to upgrade data protector from 6.0X to 9.0X.

We have find out the license problem between 6.0X and 9.0X.

We would like to know it 6.0X and 9.0X are compatible software?

Where can I get more information on the issues?
