Hi,

As you already had a problem like this before and get a fix from HPE, just open a new case and let HPE fix that problem too! ;-)

please contact the license team with your available licenses of 6.11 and accordingly they will regenerate your DP 9 licenses.

Hello Adam,

any news yet? We have exactly the same problem after upgrading from 9.07_10 to 9.08.
I 'm gonna open up a ticket today.

DP9.0x - Licensing of Integration

Hi,

I'm a bit confused about my licenses and want to know, how can I find out, which client uses which license?

- I have 30 On-line Extension for Win/Lin and at the moment 29 are in use (25 SAP R/3 Oracle Server, 2 MSSQL and 1 MSSQL Cluster Server)

- 25 + 2 + 1 = 28 not 29

- The MSSQL cluster is a new installation and I don't know if it uses two On-line Ex licenses for one cluster (two nodes with AG)

- omnicc -check_licenses -detail (just shows the overall licenses)

- BRICK also shows just the overview of all licenses

- going through all installed clients via DP GUI and check if any integration was installed but not used (everything looks good)

- could it be, that the backup server (Cell Manager/Installation Server) uses one of the licenses? (non integration is installed)

Any idea how to check definitely which client uses which license?

Thanks for you help.

Tobias

ps. what is the difference between this forum and the support forum?

Nothing yet, I think there is something wrong with root cert used to sign the kit and that it only affects older windows server versions, but I do not have proof of that. I also will open a case and post what I learn here, if you could too, that would be great. For now, I've left my old windows hosts running 9.07 DA and that seems to work ok (as it should).

Hello Tobias,

this forum is not constantly monitored by support, like the support forum.
The intention of it is that customers who do not have a support contract can find help by communicating to each other.

Regarding your question:
- The cell manager does not require an online extension.
- Online extensions are required once per system.
That means you need two for a two node cluster.

Michael

Re: DP 9.08 does not honour gateway policy for object copies -still uses gatways for source object c

Hello

You are missunderstanding the meaning for this option

Gateway may be used as source device for object copy
(available for B2D stores)

A device with this option selected may replace any device of the same device tag. If the original device is not available for an object copyA copy of a specific object version that is created during an object copy session or a backup session with object mirroring. session, Data Protector automatically selects an alternative device of the same type, located in the same library.

Default: not selected

If you want to select which gateway is used during copy job is must be done from copy job specification into Source devices tab.

Anyway I don't think so that specific could be the issue "Our object copies are now taking a long time" maybe you must check different topics about why performance has descreased, data size, concurrency, number of objects,.......

Best Regards

Re: Tapes are marked as Fair

Hello

If tapes were marked as good after to be used for last backup, any other operation should have used those tapes at any moment. You can check media.log file and searching for barcode determine when and why this tape has been used and marked as poor.

C:\ProgramData\OmniBack\log\server\Media.log

Hello

I guess you are backup one server with three objects, into backup specification more than one driver is selected (Minimum 3) and drive concurrency per each drive must be set to 1. As result you are using three tapes at the same time one per object.

Select just one drive as destination and it could resolve issue.

Previous Data Protector 7 licenses

I have an implementation with previous Data Protector 7 licenses, which are not supported.
I damaged my library and I want to see if I buy new licenses for disk support about 4 TB, but I know that version 7 is no longer marketed.
You can downgrade the version 9 licenses or it is not possible and I have to compose all the licenses and make the migration to version 9

Hello,

Could you please let us know the OS on the Cell Manager (old and new).

For Windows, If you need to move the backup specifications from one server to another, you can:

A) From the old Cell Manager, locate the directory named "Datalist" as default is under "...omniback\config\server"

B) On the new Cell Manager, check for the folder "Datalist" (possible same location), rename it and copy the entire folder from the old server.

C) Open the Data Protector GUI and check if the backups related to filesystem from the Old Cell Manager shows up. If not, possible needs to restart the Data Protector services to implement the changes.

Thanks for the clarification. It's a pity that you have to drive into the context sensitive help to understand how it really works.

In our case, we have servers that are using FC to talk to the Storeonce, and a Tape writing server to write tapes. So for object copies we want the tape writing server to read from the Storeonce over FC, and write to tapes over FC. What we started seeing in our copy jobs, was that the copy job was using the original server to read from the StoreOnce over FC, then sending it to the tape writing server over ethernet, which was then writing to the tapes over FC. And the ethernet part was a significant bottleneck. It doesn't help that the source servers are HPUX Itanium, and the tape writing server is Redhat x386 ...

Changing this behaviour using the Source tab in the object copy spec seems to have worked.

Backup of Windows server failing when all drives selected, successful when backing up one by one.

Hello everyone

I am facing a weird problem. I am running file system backup of a Windows 2k12 server. When I select complete system (C:\, D:\ and CONFIGURATION) at once the backup is failing with below error:

[70:24] A system error occurred when starting the target script or an agent module. The system error code reported is 1455 and the message resolves to '[1455] The paging file is too small for this operation to complete. '.

But when I am running backup of each drive one by one, it is completing just fine. As the error message suggests "paging file is too small", so my questions here are:

1)What is the reason behind this issue, why single drive backup completing and multiple drive backup at once failing?

2)Will increasing the size of paging file help? ( Need to know this befor changing it because if it does not help, i will have to show poker face to client :| )

Your response is awaited guys :)

Thanks in advance!!!

Hi,

What is your DP version and do you have latest patches installed?

Was it working before?

Ensure that:

1. From Cell Manager & from your Oracle server, nslookup on ip & hostname of your Oracle server gives consistent output.

2. Outside of DP,  login as the Oracle user you defined in the DP integration, via command "sqlplus /nolog" you are able to connect to the Oracle DB as sysdba

If the above are good, you may want to log a support case with HP so that these can be checked in more detail.

Just wanted to add a note for Linux Installation Server.

You should put the received HF or SSP package to the Installation Server depot in *.tar format. In any other case it will not show up in the list.

For example,

DP0907_B109_QCCR2A69192_HF1_UX.TAR.zip contains DP0907_b109_QCCR2A69192_HF1_ux.tar.gz which should be gunzipped to DP0907_b109_QCCR2A69192_HF1_ux.tar

Hi Michael,

Thank you for the information!

I've read that part in the Inst Guide, but I guess not in the right way.

Can confirm, should I tried before, after removing the cluster (check licenses) and reimport.

Thanks!

Tobias
