Is there any other way to back up the IDB other than the Internal Database backup spec?
All the backups are running fine, it is only problem with the IDB backups.
If I back up the entire /var/opt/omni/server dir, will that be the same as compared to the IDB backup?

Hello Experts,
Did anyone try to do GRE for LINUX VM, i have never done it sucessfully. In our environment we did GRE for windows VM without any issues. Here is the details - we have installed all GRE components on LINUX proxy server i.e. FUSE/kpartx/Samba, NFS daemon is running as well. I dont know where is the glitch. Any thought?
Cell manager - 9.07/Win 2k12
Proxy server - 9.07/RHEL 6.x
ESX - 5.5.x
Error - couldnt start recovery
Details:Cannot access to network share on target VM Error info:SAMBA error:Nfs Error
Hi All,
We have one backup server runs DP6.1. One cluster( W2008) was configured and working. For some time this servers giving connection issues and backups are failing. This cluster has two nodes and 2 virtual servers.
After trying many things, now I can nslookup and telnet to port 5555 onto both nodes. But backup cannot connect to virtual servers. I am thinking of deleting all nodes/virtual servers and import the cluster again. I am not sure that will delete the backup data in the IDB for these servers, so I will loose all backups taken before.
1. Is this the correct approach to fix this connection issue?
2. Will I loose all backed up data by doing this?
3. If I want to re-import cluster, what is the correct sequence of activities.
Please help if anybody knows.
Thank you.

Hi Guys,
I know this is not purely a question about Data Protector but I have been reading PDFs from HP all day and I haven't found an answer.
We have a "HP StorageWorks D2D4106fc - G02" unit that we use as a VTL in Data Protector 9. The device is 90% full.
Here is my issue:
We have a virtual file server with 6 x 1TB disks attached to it.
We plan to move all the data to another server and I am wondering if the Deduplication on the D2D will see the data on the new server and dedupe it or it will be seen as new data and my D2D storage will get full immediately?
Does any of you know the answer to this question?
I do not want to try moving the Data and see if the Deduplication ratio gets affected since I am stuck with only 10% of free disk space on the D2D.
Thanks
Alain
I have been patching to version A.09.08, and using the following command to reset Flag medium
omnimm -reset_poor_medium [MeidumID], but still doesnt work. I attach the following picture.
is there any other solution ?
I have a client with a newly upgraded DP clustered windows cell manager. Version now is 9.08.
They have a test cell on 9.08 and I wanted to run a test IDB restore of the production cell to the test cell.
Tape imported, IDB restore executed via the GUI.... Using an alternate location....
Default install location of IDB is F:\DataProtector
Set restore to recover to F:\DataProtector2.
GUI restore works, data is restored.
At the end it says "Starting replacement of the Internal database"......
RMA completes...
Then get "Replacement of the Internal Database finished successfully"
At this point the GUI sits there. Does nothing....Session isnt completing.....
omnisv status reports all active except CRS which is in maintenance
if I abort the session and take CRS out of maintenance, the original TEST CM is the same, not the restored one!
ANY IDEAS???
Configuring Hyper-V with DP9.08. Backups work fine but application specific option "Enable Incremental backup of VM(s)" is not seen in the DP GUI. Only pre-exec and post-exec.
options missing are the hyper-v options to enable incremental and replica options....
Is this only supported with hyper-v 2012 R2 as this test environment is hyper-v 2008 R2
Hi experts!.
I am working with a costumer with DP v905 and they dont want to use the "classic" Scheduler beacuse, as they told me, "some Hp professional said that it is going to disappear soon", so they only use the Advanced Scheduler (with its limitations).
It sounds a little bit excessive to me, but if any of you know something about it, I will appreciate that info.
Thank you.
Hello Galih,
I use:
omnimm -reset_poor_medium CAT_DC_winfs_1_MediaPool_32861
Where the medium id is the description name from the GUI. The other ID is the harder to locate and type. This has always worked for me.. I just patched to 9.08_113, but it has worked for me since 9.02 with Catalyst, VTL, and real tape media.
Hello
DP 9.08 still is not enough you must install patches post 9.08 version

- Data Protector 9.08_113 - Core for HP-UX/IA (DPUX_20100)
- Data Protector 9.08_113 - Cell Server for HP-UX/IA (DPUX_20101)
- Data Protector 9.08_113 - Disk Agent for HP-UX/IA (DPUX_20102)

Even if HPE were to get rid of the "classic" scheduler, seems to me that they'd have to integrate a function in the patch/updgrade that took all of our regular schedules and convert them into Advanced Schedules.
Otherwise I'm sure there'd be plenty of blowback for such a move and a lot of users holding off on any updates till they provided such a feature.
The only thing I really dislike about Advanced Schedules is that they don't show up with their next scheduled time in the Backup view under the Scheduled column when you look at your Backup Specs by type (Filesystem, IDB, Integrations).
Recently the Data Protector support teams have seen issues where backups hang indefinitely. There is a known issue where if one of the clients in the backup specification is unresponsive due to resource issues such as out of memory/page file, CPU overload, excessive semiphores, etc., Data Protector will keep trying to get a response from the client and does not aborts or generate an error producing what appears to be a hang.
There is a fix available on Data Protector 9.08 for this issue which will generate an error and stop trying the unresponsive client.
If you believe that you are experiencing this issue please open a case with DP support and reference ID QCIM2A70610
Environments where DP Clients that serve as De-Duplication Gateways have been removed exported/removed from the cell may experience problems with the daily media cleanup maintenance. A multitude of errors will be generated during the Media Cleanup sessions such as:
[Major] From: MSM@cellmanager.domain.com "" Time: 2/8/2017 12:02:04 PM
[65:2] Could not connect to Data Protector inet process on host gateway.domain.com.
[Major] From: MSM@cellmanager.domain.com "" Time: 2/8/2017 12:02:04 PM
[65:73] Media Management daemon reports:
"[12:3069] Certificate verification has failed. The certificate is signed by an untrusted certificate authority (CA)."
Continued growth in the number of expired media in media pools that are not getting deleted may also be experienced.
The reason for this is that although the clients were removed from the cell, the Libraries still have gateways configured that point to the exported clients. Hence the automatic maintenance is still trying to clean up expired media by using the gateways configured.
To resolve this issue delete or disable the problematic gateways and configure new gateways which point to existing media agent clients. Then either allow the automatic maintenance to run as normal or manually trigger the delete_unprotected_media functionality using the GUI or CLI command omnimm
Thank you Tim!.
Actually, the issue with the Advanced Scheduler in my case is that I need to exclude the last Weekly Full backup, in order to avoid the overlaping with the Mounthly one. As far as I know, this can be done by manually deleting these days from the Weekly Full Schedule in the classic Scheduler or customizing the Schedule files that classic Scheduler uses.
Am i wrong?.
I've had a similar issue with the Advanced Scheudler - HERE .
Neither of them is a direct replacement for the the other. I'd rather they just take the features of the advanced and put them into the GUI client so you aren't opening a new window and keep it all integrated. Also, it'd be nice to do as you are doing and still be able to edit the Schedule files by hand if you wanted to do a quick tweak.
Hi. Does anyone know old HP Data Protector? Our Linux admins (2) were let go, several months later a new one was hired. Nobody ever took ownership of an old HP DP instance. We've got to upgrade the server since it's an old Oracle Ent. Linux 5.1, kernel 2.6 box, so we're trying to figure out if we can provide a different solution instead of using this ancient install. Regarding the HP DP version, going into /opt/omni/bin and running ./omniver - version, it shows HP Data Protector A.06.10 built 11 Nov 2008. Without a GUI admin console, how do I use command line to find out which hosts are being backed up to what targets? If I can get an understanding of how it's used, then we can look for a replacement solution. Thanks!!!
I've found the admin documents, but still trying to figure out which ones apply to this installation. Also found log directory and found we're backing up to tape. I believe the only hosts being backed up are some old Windows servers at one remote facility (I'm at corp hq) to a tape library at that facility. Still educating myself, but input from this forum would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I did a test restore of a vm to a different name with no network connectivity. After I tested it (changed MAC address), I removed it from vmware (deleted it). Now data protector is giving me an error it cannot find the original VM.
Do I need to re-register it or something?
