this topic has always been an issue. Whilst you may be able to see the drives, you will find that HP are unlikely to support it.

The robotics normally daisy chains off one of the drives. Check the library configuration.

I would recommend you setup a dedicated physical media server

The only way to bring all my media back online was the use of omnidownload & omniupload:

1. omnidownload -library DataDomain01 -file DataDomain01
2. add the non-resident offline media (files on DataDomain) to the file DataDomain01
3.  omniupload -modify_library DataDomain01 -file DataDomain01
4. "new" found media is marked unknown and must be rescaned

I recieve error as below when medium is writen, the media agent (AIX server) via fiber cannot read the keys for decrypion.

When I deactivate drive based encryption or when medium doesnt have protection everything works fine,

Does someone has solution about this issue?

Hi Harry,

Im not sure much with your request but if you want you can make 1 key for all mediums with changing following global options,

EnableCommonKeyEntity  = 1

KeyEntity = any name you want

A little more detail will be very useful here to look into the issue like DP version with patch version, OS version, error getting while trying to run services, any specific services not running or all services are down?

Thanks,

HPE Data Protector 9.05 VM Backup hang after Completion

Hello Community,

we have the issue that our VM Backup via DP 9.05 won´t complete.

After backing up all virtual machines, we have a "complete media Agent" message but the session never ends.

The vepa_bar.exe prosess in taskbar is still running, after manuelly kill the vepa_bar.exe process, the session ends with "Completed/Failures".

Until now, i have no idea to solve the issue in the fastest way .

On the vCenter Server DP Patch DPWIN_00841 (Virtual Environment Integration) is installed.

Maybe you have some ideas (except upgrading to DP 9.06 or higher ;) )

Best Regards,

Markus

Hello

Please provide details missing like AIX version, drive model\version, debug.log file from AIX server will be fine.

Seems to be that drive is not able to use encryption feature using AIX server as media agent nad could be related to any unsuspported version.

Best Regards

Hello

HPE support is working in similar cases along Vmware support, some API calls remain running even after media completed message keeping sessions active. Please follow action plan below.

1º Keep in mind that those backups are 100% fine for restore purpose.

2º Open support case and provide debugs for be able determine if you are suffering the same or different issue.

Best Regards

ftp://ftp.itrc.hp.com/applications/HPSoftware/ONLINE_HELP/hp_man_DP9.00_Integration_pdf.pdf

Prerequisites (page 423 out of 837)
l An instance of Oracle must be created on the system to which you want to restore or duplicate the database.
l The database must be in the Mount state if the whole database is being restored, or in the NoMount state if the control file is being restored or a database duplication is performed.
l You must be able to connect to the database.

Answer: Instance must be initialized/created with something before performing restore

problem backing up clustered disk

$

I have an old server 2003 cluster which i need to backup a clustered drive. For some reason the backups are running but dying during the night, and the only thing i can think of is when i look resources, that the drive is mounted to say lets say server 2, and the clustered IP is on server 1.

When i look at the disk on the 3par, i can see all the read hits on server 1, so i'm wondering if its trying to read the data through server to a disk mounted on server 2.

So i thought as a test i would create a backup to just backup up this drive through server 2, but when i look at DP all i can see is C: and configuration, i have logged on the server and i can see the drive X: but i guess because DP sees it in the cluster backup i can't just select as a drive on server itself.

Anyway of being able to backup up directly through server 2 without using the cluster name? that way forcing the backup through server 2.

Getting the "Backup ID" from the Session Details of a FS or Group Replication

$

Hello,

i work on a script that checks if all object are successfully replicated in a replication job.

If i check the details of a replication session via omnidb:

omnidb -session $REPSESSIONID -detail

I get a outplut like:

Object name : testserver.local:/ '/usr/share'
        Object type : FileSystem
        Object status : Completed
        Started : Mon 27 Mar 2017 11:00:05 PM CEST
        Finished : Mon 27 Mar 2017 11:01:05 PM CEST
        Object size : 30040 KB
        Backup type : Incremental1
Protection : Protected for 13 days
Catalog retention : Same as data protection.
        Version type : Normal
        Access : Private
        Number of warnings : 0
        Number of errors : 0
        Device name : DC1_CAT20_REP_dptest
        Backup ID : n/a
        Copy ID : 5F2B0121-4F2B-481D-B79F-2DC827B85093/12326773 (Copy)
        Encrypted : No
        DiskAgent ID : 1490648403

For oracle Backups, the "Backup ID" is given, but for FS or Group-Backups, the "Backup ID" is "n/a".

How can i get a list of Backup-IDs used in the Replication or can i lookup the Backup-ID via the "Copy ID" somehow (i would prefer this method anyway but can't find a usable command) ?

In the next step i list all Objects from the Replication and from the Backup and make a diff to check if anything is missing, this works fine for Oracle but as i said, i have no clue how the get the Backup ID for FS or Group.

Kind Regards

the clustered drive should only be visible via DP through the clustered IP/host. This is normal behaviour when the clustered clients are using the cluster aware DP agents.

It might be that the host (server 2) did access the drive but it wont attempt to back it up

only way to backup via server 2 is to reinstall the agent as non cluster aware...

Re: problem backing up clustered disk

I kind of thought that, but i also have clustered drives, which are small and backing up fine, so i can't take the clustered back up off.

Is there a way i can run both?

unfortunately you cant do both as the agent is cluster aware. The registry is flagged to be clustered.

If you automated an regedit to alter the cluster flag to ZERO this might work.....but not supported!

have you ever tried changing that registry file? As you say its not supported, just curious if that actually works, as they maybe an option.

I havent tried changing on the fly but its worth a try..... see how the agent behaves..... then put it back afterwards

Hello,

you cannot free up space at the beginning of a tape if other sessions are behind the first session. You can only add session after the last session. You can only overwrite the whole tape after all sessions have been expired. You can remove the protection of one session. But you cannot use this unprotected space.
