Why? Members of the default group of operators do not have sufficient rights to recovery? Why mention "impersonation"? Used as a simple file backup/restor without SharePoint or Exchange.

This is probably not a suitable question for the Data Protector Forum.  I read through the StoreOnce VSA installation Guide

www.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03687480.pdf

and didn't see any mention of Data Protector, and I certainly know nothing about this.  Perhaps one of the other folks who read teh Forums will know something

If you are getting nothing out of support, you should probably utilize the Duty Manager process to get their attention

For Support concerns that require a Duty Manager’s attention (7x24), please contact your local support office and ask to speak to a Duty Manager.・@ The local support phone number is

URL: http://h20230.www2.hp.com/contact_list.jsp

4:52 PM

When the duty manager contacts the assigned owner of the case, he will also copy his Manager, and Team Lead, if applicable

This was supposedly fixed for DP 7.01 and carried forward to 7.03

As a matter of fact, as I look down the list of lab cases for this Warning, all I am seeing is 'Fixed' with associated patch numbers.  This would not apply to you, since there were no patches released for DP 7.03

Yo will probably have to open a case with the response center

Update

If operators further to give the right "restore as root", then everything starts to work without errors.

But!!! Help says:

"This user right allows the user to restore objects with the rights of the root UNIX user. Note that this is a powerful right that can affect the security of your system. This user right is required to run any restore on Novell NetWare clients. This user right has no effect on Windows systems. Restores on Windows always run in the context of the Data Protector Inet service."

But I only have windows!

Hi,

My Windows OS unable to boot up . Black screen, Error message: "McAfee Endpoint Encryption Fatal Error: [0xEE020006] Getting disk info."

My Machine details:

Machine: HP EliteBook 8470P (D0N55PA)
HDD: WD7500BPKT (750GB, 7500rpm, 2.5”)
OS 1: Windows 7 64x (Installed on Disk 0, Partition 1)…Primary and on use all the time.
OS 2: Windows 8 64x (Installed on Disk 0, Partition 2)..secondary and back up OS.

Partition 1: 100GB, NTFS, Label: Win 7
Partition 2: 100GB, NTFS, Label: Win 8
Partition 3: 200GB, NTFS, Label: Data
Partition 4: 376GB, NTFS, Label: PSD

I get my local IT engineer to support. He reinstall windows 8 under partition 2. Machine was able to restart with windows 7 & windows 8, but the both OS unable to recognise partition 3 & 4, thus request to format it!
Our engineer has tried multiple type of solution to recover the data which available from the internet by using disktech with various version, but the most close is disk tech 2012 from HP.
However after booting with disktech2012 software, the program can accept the drive encryption key, but the particular partition 3 & 4 was showing blank as nothing is inside.

Therefore please advise how we can recover the data on partition 3 & 4.

Software details:
The machine was installed with:
HP ProtectTools Security Manager Ver.  7.0.2.1213
Embedded Security for HP ProtectTools ver. 7.0.100.3001
Drive Encryption for HP ProtectTools ver. 7.0.39.32378

Partition 1 & 2 Un protected by HP protecttools.
Partition 3 & 4 was fully protected by Drive Encryption for HP ProtectTools

Partition contain details:

Partition 1 (100GB) – Windows 7 OS & system files only. (including boot sector & record)
Partition 2 (100GB)- windows 8 OS & system files only.
Partition 3 (200GB) – ALL IMPORTANT OFFICE DOCUMENT, EMAILS (.pst), PHOTOS, Embedded security backup keys, music, PPT and many more.

Looking forward for your reply.

Thank you.

Storeonce VSA is a backup device tu be used , also, with data protector , so I thought this would be the right forum.

If I'm wrong I'm sorry I'll try to find a better place to post the query

Problem solved!

I can't believe that I missed this. Both problematic servers had old snapshots. When I removed them, both VMs got backed up.

Upgrading 6.20 on a W2K3 32-bit CM to 7 (or 8.1)

Hi,

I'm planning a much-needed upgrade of my DP environment, going from 6.20 on a W2K3 32-bit cluster to 7.0 on a W2K8 R2 64-bit cluster.

I had originally considered going straight to 8.1 but it became clear that that wouldn't be possible as W2K3 isn't supported.

So my plan was to upgrade to 7.0 on my current system, then transfer and convert the IDB for 64-bit on the new platform in line with the steps in the Installation Guide. However, a check of the Support Matrix suggests that DP7.0 doesn't support 32-bit W2K3.

Can anyone suggest how best to approach this problem?

Is it possible to integrate IDB files from a 6.20 IDB into a 7.0 (or 8.1) installation?

Any advice would be welcome...

Thanks,

Bob

You are right, at first, I looked at the support matrix:

http://support.openview.hp.com/selfsolve/document/KM1357659

click on 'Platform and Integration Matrix', this shows the following are supported as Cell Managers and Installation servers

 Windows 7 (32-bit)
 Windows Server 2003 (64-bit) (x64)

 Windows Server 2008 (32-bit)     <<<<<<<
 Windows Server 2008 (64-bit) (x64)
 Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit) (x64)
 Windows Server 2012 (64-bit) (x64) 14
 HP-UX (PA-RISC) 6 11.31  HP-UX (Itanium)6 11.31
 Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 4 5.x, 6.0, 6.1, 6.2, 6.3 (64-bit) (x64)
 SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10, 11 (64-bit) (x64)

Then, I noticed that the indicated line was for Windows 2008 32-bit.  I was hoping that W2003 might be the same as Windows 7, but some research shows that Windows 2003 is actually equivalent to Windows XP

I think that your best bet would be to either do a IDB backup of your existing DP to tape, Install DP 7.0 on your W2K8 cluster, connect a tape drive to the new server, create a device, and import the tape, and do the IDB restore.  I don't think that there was a major change to the IDB between 6.2 and 7.0

I would not updating to DP 8.1 at this time, there are just too many issues with it.  I'm not sure I would advise an upgrade to 8.0 either

Whatever version of DP you upgrade to, plan so that you can go back to the previous version of something fails

I am not seeing anything here about Data Protector.  Did you do a backup using DP, and prepare for Disaster REcovery? If not, I don't know if there is any one here who can help you

Perfect, this is exactly what I needed. Spent countless hours debugging and HP is still on the case!

Works perfectly

I found a lab case with this exact error.  I am not 100% behind the proposed solution, so, I advise that you stop DP, and make a copy of 'db80' and put it in a safe place before proceeding

- Create a domain user (not Administrator) with administrator rights (administrator group)

# omnisv stop
# rename C:\ProgramData\OmniBack\server\db80\pg/pg_xlog C:\ProgramData\OmniBack\server\db80\pg/pg_xlog_renamed
# omnisv start
b) Under non-administrator user with administrator rights, run again:
  C:\Program Files\OmniBack\bin> perl omnidbrestore.pl -autorecover -session 2014/02/13-1 -force

Let me know if this works, and I will add it as a support tip

I am so glad to hear that, we have been struggling with this for quite a while, tested it, and, I am glad that it works out in the real world
