This can also be caused by "polling" servers and old drivers, if your library is HP can you upload a support ticket?

Re: Web Services supported in HP Data Protector
Hi 'svollrat', thanks so much for your response about this topic.
As you have commented on Data Protector web services that are not handled in this tool, we need to know is whether via a web service can communicate / interact HP Data Protector with some other tool, adding the Web service in its coding or logic must be modified to use another application, similar to that used 'LiveVault', my question is whether may develop web service to be used in another tool, such as a help desk and communication exists between HP Data Protector and the help desk?
I appreciate your help with this regard.
Regards!!!
Re: Web Services supported in HP Data Protector
Hi.
As complement of last question, I'd want to know If HP Data Protector can call an external application so use web services and then create or update tickets once an event is triggered.

Backups failing and slow
Recently backups using HP Data Protector have begun failing or when successful take an inordinate amount of time. This doesn't seem to be a size issue or netork problem.
Re: Backups failing and slow
Hi idjit please include more data like:
Error seen on session.
Session report of a nomal fast backup and slow backup.
What backup device are you using.
Re: Backups failing and slow
Thanks for replying Pablo. Actually the backups are failing with messages related to taking too much time. It is a bit confusing because there doesn't seem to be a common denominator. Most of the devices are LTO 5, and the size doesn't seem to matter because many sessions are completing successfully, then randomly some smaller jobs fail after running for 10 hours sometimes. Going to run some IDB repair scripts to see if their is some corrupted dbs, which may or may not seem logical. I will look at the messages and include them later.
HPDP Basic Troubleshooting Guide
Hi Guys,
I'm new HPDP and we're using ver A.08.10 in our organisation. First of all, I was wondering if there is any user guide avaialble to understand bits and pieces about HPDP as I'm new to this.
I'm trying to create custom reports in HPDP but would like to know exactly what files/folders are being backed up.
SessionID : 2015/05/27-3
Backup Specification: IDB OB_Database
Session type : Backup
Started : Wednesday, 27 May 2015, 3:00:07 PM
Finished : Wednesday, 27 May 2015, 3:11:39 PM
Status : Completed
Number of warnings : 0
Number of errors : 0
User : ADMINISTRATOR
Session data size [kB]: 31742439 KB
Now when i searched for objects it shows Object type IDB (Databasefiles -0,1,2 etc) were backed up. Is there any way I can find out what files/folders/applciation database were backed up previously. Thank you.
Re: Web Services supported in HP Data Protector
You can write Scripts that are triggered by DataProtector Notifications to send Data to your Reporting/Montioring Tool, but that is all custom made.
If your Tool has an Agent/Plugin for DataProtector (like HP OVO or HP OneView) you can use that but DataProtector does not deliver Plugins for Reporting Tools by its own.
How Data Protector installation on domain controller will impact at AD domain information security
Hello,
please help with understanding how installation of data protector 9 on AD domain controller will impact at information vulnerabilities of MS domain. There is a DP service account which is used for connection with clients. In our case the DP services are started on domain controller directly and interact with clients. I would like to be sure that we will not have on clients computers a process having privileges equal of domain admins. Thanks.
Re: Backups failing and slow
Please be more specific about the timeouts, there are plenty of them.
Classics are:
[61:2052] Bar backup session was started but no client connected in 1800 seconds. Aborting session!
[61:1002] The BMA named "x" on host host reached its inactivity timeout of 8400 seconds. The agent on host will be shutdown.
[61:1002] The OB2BAR Backup DA named "x" on host server reached its inactivity timeout of 900 seconds. The agent on host will be shutdown.
Each can be counteracted with other TimeoutSettings and has different causes that can be investigated
Re: HPDP Basic Troubleshooting Guide
All Guides are on the InstallMedium (nowadays a ISO-Image).
They are also available online on softwaresupport.hp.com
The Report "omnidb -idb Host:Set-session SessionID -catalog" is what you want.
Where Host:Set is something like:
<CellServerName>:DatabaseFiles:0
<CellServerName>:DPSPECs:0
<CellServerName>:DCBFs:0
Run "omnidb -session SessionID" to get a listing of all Objects.
Re: How Data Protector installation on domain controller will impact at AD domain information securi
The DataProtector Inet Service usually runs as LocalSystem unless manually configured differently.
Unless you allow LocalSystem-Account to act as Domain Admin you should be quite save.
If you want to prevent unauthorized Servers to access the DP Inet Service (by default everybody can connect to it via Port 5555) lock it down to only accept connections from your CellServers. For that open the Client-Context in DP GUI, select the desired client, switch to Security-Tab and add all Servers that are allowed to connect to the System to the list there.
Bakcup To disk
Hi i'm using dp 7.03, and doing backup to disk to a windows machine disk, I know not so good but this was imposed.
anyway I setup a new library and pool for one backup job.
Everything works fine untill there's space in disk when space finish i'm not able to free up space even if media is set to recycle.
I cannot export media error is "Media of type Distributed file media format cannot be exported."
I don't think is a good idea to delete manually the folders.
Does someone have same problem ?
Thanks.
Not Enough Licenses
Hi All,
There seems to be some kind of a glitch with my DP A.09.00 , I am getting Not enough licenses "Single Drive for Windows / Linux" error all the time.
I have 1 Single Drive license thatis in use.
I installed an Oracle client on different PC and removed it afterwards, but still geting this error.
Is there some way to purge this client that is nowhere visible anymore and to have my DP back in function?
Thank you!
Re: File library error
Hi can you give more details on what you have done ?
The file i see in log is present on disk and with omnidownload I see two files try to remove both but this do not change.
Thanks
Re: Web Services supported in HP Data Protector
Hi svollrat, newly thanks in advance for your response.
Right now you indicate it can write scripts for trigger across Data Protector Notification, my question would be notification method uses Data Protector for these events, if is via email or via web services?
Thanks a lot for your help.
Regards!!!
Re: Web Services supported in HP Data Protector
I believe you asked the same in another thread already.
DataProtector Notifications can be configured in GUI in Reporting Context.
You can configure the Notifications to do various things, default is an entry to DataProtector Eventlog.
Alternatives are E-Mail, entry to a Log-File, triggering a SNMP-Trap or execting a custom made Script.
Re: Not Enough Licenses
The number of Clients has nothing to do with the Drive Licenses.
Drive Licenses determine how many Tapedrives you can use in parallel.
If you have only one you can run one Backup at a time, others will wait till a License-Slot is freed.
Re: Bakcup To disk
I believe this was solved in duplicate Thread "file library error", if so please mark this Post as resolved.
Re: Bakcup To disk
No, two different problem, one is to delete media, the other is to free space.
