Import of Tape Failing on HPE Dataprotector v9.07
Hello Experts,
We have new environment on HPE Dataprotector v9.07 on Windows 2012 R2. We want to import few backup tapes from another DP environment (which is also running at v9.07). Import of backup tapes goes through well with tapes which has no backup data spanned over multiple tapes. When trying to execute the import of backup tapes which have spanned backups, only the import of the first tapes goes through and import of second tape fails the moment it encounters the spanned backup data with the error "this media already has valid copy in DB"

Data Protector not adding IBM LTO-7 Drives
Hello,
I have HPE Data Protector Version 7.03 on a Windows Server 2008 R2 Std
The Cell Manager has already a fujitsu library connected. Now we are trying to add a new library to one of the clients. The client is an Oracle Linux 6.2 and the new device is an IBM TS3200 library with 2 LTO-7 drives
We tried to autoconfigure the new library but the drives could not be added. After adding the variable OB2CHANGERELEMENTPARSER=0 on the omnirc file of the linux media agent we managed to add the new library with the two drives.
The problem is that the new drives are shown as "tape devices" and the library has as default media type "tape" and not "LTO Ultrium"
If we manually configure the library with LTO Ultrium as default media type, then when we try to add the drives we get the error "159:13043 No data devices detected"

VSS Error during Exchange Server configuration
Error 3 returned from DP VSS API
Hi All,
Trying to configure exch backup (exch in Cluster) with HPDP but failed with "Error 3 returned from DP VSS API"
Error mentioned. Could not able to solve it.
If anyone has encountered this error before, Please help!
DP version : 9.08
Exch Version : Exch 2013 I guess.

I think you see the library with media type "tape" and not "LTO Ultrium" because scsitab file from DP 7.03 does not "know" your tape library and it is recognized as a generic one. I think this file should be updated accordingly with your library parameters. Maybe HPE support will help you with this and provide you the updated file.

DP 7.03 is out of support and as mihaib200 said this version is not ready for detect and use IBM LTO 7 devices. Please upgrade to supported version DP 8 or DP 9

2º Check that Windwo firewall is disabled

If you get this error message this is due tape already is present, please verify it using omnimm command
omnimm -media_info "barcode or mediumID"
In such case export nad import tape again.
Also as workaorund you can try to use MCF feature that is so much faster than traditional import tape.
Steps
In the Context List, click Devices & Media.
In the Scoping Pane, expand Media and then expand Pools.
Expand the media poolA set of media of the same type (such as DDS) used and tracked as a group. Media are formatted and assigned to a media pool. with the medium whose catalog you want to copy.
Right-click the medium and click Copy Catalog to File.
Specify the output directory for the MCF file, which will contain media-related catalog data.
Click Finish to start copying and exit the wizard.
The exported MCF file can be transferred to the destination Cell Manager.

DP9.08 Disk agent support for Novell Open Enterprise Server 11.x for Linux (64bit)
Hi,
I checked the Platform_integration_supportMatrix for DP 9.0x, dated Octoer 2016, version 3.7.
On the first page, "Support for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 does NOT include support for Novell Open Enterprise Server 11. However, on page 2, Novell Open Enterprise Server 11.x for Linux (64 bit) was supported for media agent, on page 3 it's supported for disk agent, on page 15, Novell Open Enterprise Server File system NSS.
Is it supported or not? Anybody knows.

(DP) Support Tip: A word about StoreOnce, Data Protector and House Keeping
1. When does the House Keeping run?
House Keeping is initiated when the DP daily maintenance is triggered or a –delete_unprotected_media is executed either from
the DP GUI or the CLI.
House Keeping will run on the StoreOnce platform anytime that House Keeping tasks are queued and no other activity is taking
place such as replication or backups. House Keeping is a lower priority task therefore will only run if no other activity
is taking place on the StoreOnce platform.
2. Can the user initiate and/or schedule House Keeping?
Yes by editing the DP global file or running delete_unprotected_media either from the DP GUI or the CLI.

# limit: 0 <= DeleteUnprotectedMediaFreq <= 24
# This period is used to run unprotected media deletion operation.
# If set to 1, operation is performed once per day (00:00),

# (00:00, 06:00, 12:00, 18:00). If maximum (24) is specified,

Data Protector only triggers the House Keeping on the StoreOnce platform. House Keeping is done in a background process on
the StoreOnce platform and does so any time the StoreOnce platform is idle with no backup jobs or replication taking place.
3. What is the fastest/easiest way to trigger and start to reclaim space on the StoreOnce platform.
Recycling media is the fastest/easiest way to flag media for cleanup, followed by an immediate
omnimm –delete_unprotected_media or GUI equivalent. Understanding that the item in the Data Protector internal database
and on the StoreOnce platform is removed from inventory immediately, however the reclaiming of disk space is subject to
the background process described above on the StoreOnce platform.
Items in the Data Protector internal database which have been expired less than 24 hours will not be flagged for cleanup
unless the following Data Protector global file variable is properly tuned:
# DeleteUnprotectedMediaMinimumAge=seconds
# default: 86400
# Determines what is the minimum age of the medium to be deleted
# by omnimm -delete_unprotected_media.
# If a medium age is lower than this value (from time of
# creation), then it is skipped by omnimm.

Medium marked poor after each backup DP 9.0
Hello Guys,
With many searches regarding the issue of medium being marked poor after each backup, no matter the type of this backup (incr, full, or whatever) no clear solution to this issue. I am wondering whether this is some HP defect or the tapes themselves?
With my data protector 9.0 it marks the tapes to poor every backup done, I format the tape and retry the same thing happens even though some miga bytes has been written to the tape. The pool condition valid for 48 months (Just 6 months old the tapes) and maximum overwites are 500.
Your assistance is highly appreciated!

Hi,
The debug.log on the MA client may give a good hint. You could also generate debugs and provide them to HPE support for review. If the tape is marked poor after each backup then I assume the header is not readable after the backup has been written. No errors in the session report before the tape gets unloaded?

Backups will not start because there are no Cell Manager licenses available.
I started getting an error on a secondary Data Protector server about licenses.
On the main server the config file licdistrib.dat points to the secondary server, and on the secondary server the file lic_server point to the main server.
Also, when I go to Data Protector > Help > Licences - Licencsing Mode is Remote and License Server is main server.
We did upgrade the main server to 9.08 and left the second server at 9.00 but this upgrade was months ago and was working fine until last week.
Error message-->
Backups will not start because there are no Cell Manager licenses available.
Any ideas ?

Please check that client is corrrectly added into cell_info file /etc/opt/omni/server/cell/cell_info. Also check that client has correct entry for cell server name into file /etc/opt/omni/client/cell_server.
